Etymology 1
From Srednji Engleski owen, aȝen, from Stari Engleski āgen (“own, proper, peculiar”), originally the past participle of āgan; from Pra-Zapadno Germanski *aigan (“own”), from Pra-Germanski *aiganaz (“own”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eyḱ- (“to have, possess”).
