Mario Kart Tour
Mario Kart Tour |
---|
Developers: Nintendo EPD,
Bandai Namco Studios,
DeNA This game has unused animations. This game has a prototype article This game has a prerelease article |
This article is a work in progress. ...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes. |
In Mario Kart Tour, Mario and friends got tired of racing in the same old Mushroom Kingdom courses, so they're going on a tour around the real world. Unfortunately, none of the real world locations will take the Mushroom Kingdom's coins as a valid form of currency... YOUR money should do, though!
A motherload of characters are present in the roster this time around. Some are new, like King Bob-omb and Pauline, some are returning, like the glorious-as-ever Funky Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. in 16-bit form, and most are really bizarre "alternate costumes" for all the existing characters like Bus Driver Waluigi and... Detective Baby Rosalina.

Unused Graphics For the teams that didn't win in the Tours... |
Unused Textures
Karts
Light-Blue Comet Tail
An unused set of textures for the Comet Tail, being light blue with a yellow stripe in the middle, and no emblem location.
Tires
StdR_Red
A red variation of the Gray Cat Cruiser's tires, added on the New Year's 2022 Tour alongside said kart.
Objects
Unused Team Token team emblems
The texture sheet for the icon on the center of Team Tokens depicts emblems of characters who haven't been featured in Team Rallies. The emblems for Yoshi, Pauline, Rosalina, Shy Guy, Koopa Troopa and Metal Mario are unused, and will likely stay that way, giving that Tour is confirmed to be recycled past tours, starting with the 2023 Battle Tour.
Unused Audio
Voice Clips
Race Losing
All characters featured in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe have their voice clips when losing a race present in the game's files. They go unused since no characters have any reactions to finishing a race in 5th place and under, unlike past modern Mario Kart entries.
Voice clips for Peachette when losing a race. They go unused for the reason stated above.
Voice clips for Pauline when losing a race. They also go unused for the reason stated above.
Additionally, since Pauline reuses various voice clips from Mario Kart Tour in Mario Strikers: Battle League, these voice clips get to be used in that game. Both sets of voice clips are used for their intended purpose in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as both Pauline and Peachette are included as characters in that game.
Sound Effects
Mario Kart 7 Multiplayer Leftovers
A few leftover sound effects from the multiplayer menus of Mario Kart 7.
DS Waluigi Pinball Second Lap Jingle
The sound effect when starting Lap 2 in DS Waluigi Pinball heard in Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 7. Since every track on the game has only 2 laps, with the second lap of course being the final lap thus triggering the final lap sound effect, this sound effect goes unused.
It's worth noting that if the game is modified into making this track have more than 2 laps, this sound effect will play when starting every lap before the final one.
Unused Music
To do:
|
Unheard Wii Koopa Cape Underwater Intro
The intro of the underwater version of Wii Koopa Cape's music. Even though the Glider Challenge on this course starts underwater, this portion of the underwater version of the song is never heard.
Unknown Jingle
An unused short jingle.
Mario Kart 7 Leftovers
This game reused a lot of assets from Mario Kart 7, and a few leftover music tracks from that game were left in the files. These can be found in the folder named BgmResult.
The trophy presentation music. It might have been repurposed for when finishing a cup, which in the final game simply shows a congratulatory message accompanied with an original jingle.
The music for the ties in Battle Mode.
The music for when the player finishes a cup in a low position.
Unused Animations
Animated Character Artwork
An unused video of Toadette's character artwork given animation using Live2D was left in the game's files after the release of v2.4.0. It is unknown if it was used for testing or the character artworks were supposed to be animated at some point in development.
Oddities
Duplicate Character Emblems
The variants of drivers that use the emblem of the driver they're based on are actually using a duplicate of the base character's emblem.
Duplicate Badges
When Team Rallies reuse previous teams, the teams' respective winning and losing badges are duplicated in the files, resulting in the following badges having multiple identical copies in the game's memory:
- The badge for winning in Team Mario from the 2020 Mario vs. Luigi Tour, being duplicated for the Mario vs. Peach Tour and the 2022 and 2023 Mario vs. Luigi Tours. The second badge went unused since Team Mario lost that Team Rally.
- The badge for winning in Team Peach from the Peach vs. Daisy Tour, being duplicated for the Mario vs. Peach Tour as well as the May 2022 and November-December 2022 Peach vs. Bowser Tours. The third badge went unused since Team Peach lost that Team Rally.
- The badge for losing in Team Peach from the Mario vs. Peach Tour, being duplicated for the May 2022 and November-December 2022 Peach vs. Bowser Tours. The first and third badges went unused since Team Peach won those Team Rallies.
- The badges for winning and losing in Team Bowser from the Bowser vs. DK Tour, being duplicated for the May 2022 and November-December 2022 Peach vs. Bowser Tours. Since Team Bowser won the first two Team Rallies and lost the third one, the first two losing badges and third winning badge went unused.
- The badge for losing in Team Mario from the Mario vs. Peach Tour, being duplicated for the 2022 and 2023 Mario vs. Luigi Tours. The latter two badges went unused since Team Mario won those Team Rallies.
- The badge for winning in Team Luigi from the 2020 Mario vs. Luigi Tour, being duplicated for the 2022 and 2023 Mario vs. Luigi Tours. All three badges went unused since Team Luigi lost those Team Rallies.
Unreleased Courses
Note that due to the discontinuation of new content for the game on Oct 4th, 2023, the following courses will never be released.
Unknown New Courses
Suffixes of objects used in unknown new courses have been found in the game's memory, these being Mobmu and Mobnu. "Mob" refers to the internal course prefix that indicates that the track comes from Mario Kart Tour, while the rest refer to the course's internal acronym.
SNES Ghost Valley 3
Lighting maps of Ghost Valley 3 from Super Mario Kart were found in the Wario vs. Waluigi Tour. The maps were removed in the following tour, but are temporarily re-added every time RMX Ghost Valley 1 reappears.
Wii Grumble Volcano
There's an object that corresponds to Grumble Volcano from Mario Kart Wii, being RoadGuraGuraTest.
3DS Wuhu Loop
There's an object that corresponds to Wuhu Loop from Mario Kart 7, being ClownWuhu.
3DS Maka Wuhu
There's an object that corresponds to Maka Wuhu from Mario Kart 7, being RockWuhu.
3DS DK Jungle
There's objects that corresponds to DK Jungle from Mario Kart 7, being StonePillar, GoldenBanana, AirShipDK and BarrelDK.
Unused Event Token Obtaining Methods
When v2.10.0 was released, Nintendo announced in the in-game news that new ways of obtaining Event Tokens were going to be added in upcoming tours by taking out other drivers, performing drifts, and keeping combo bonuses.
Only the first and second obtaining methods have been used in tours so far, leaving the other method's graphics unused.
Hidden Emblems in Gliders
Gliders that do not have a visible emblem position on them actually have the emblem spread all over the glider and hidden behind the glider's textures.
Mirror Mode
Remains of an unused Mirror Mode from past traditional Mario Kart games can be found in the game's data.
Boo Driver Effect
Remains of an unused functionality that makes drivers translucent, similar to how they become upon using the Boo item in past Mario Kart games, can be found in the game's data.
Unused Cups
There are 2 unused cup IDs, being 38 & 44 which could correspond to Petey Piranha and Wiggler respectively, which suggests that both characters were planned to have a cup of their own, but the Petey Piranha Cup and the Wiggler Cup never got released due to the 2023 Anniversary Tour being the final tour to introduce new content to the game.
Anti Emulator/Rooted Device
If the game detects it is being played on an emulator (such as Bluestacks) or a rooted device (It checks for a TWRP folder in the system's internal memory to activate the measures), the game will either show An error has occurred message and will not proceed further or crash the game. A similar function would be used when you patch the APK of Mario Kart Tour using Lucky Patcher, to detect modified APKs. Even if you hack the game, you will probably get banned.
