Sir James Pringle of Stichill, 4th Bt. was baptised on 6 November 1726. He was the son of Sir Robert Pringle of Stichill, 3rd Bt. and Katherine Pringle.2 He married Elizabeth Macleod, daughter of Norman MacLeod, 22nd of MacLeod and Anne Martin, on 11 September 1767.1 He died on 7 April 1809 at age 82.1
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Berwickshire between 1761 and 1779.2 He was HM's Master of Works [Scotland].1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Pringle, of Stichill [N.S., 1683] on 14 December 1779.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Southern Fencibles.2 He gained the rank of Colonel in the 59th Regiment.1 He was commander of the Roxburghshire Yeomanry Cavalry.2
