Context
[edit]The Swedish National Heritage Board (Swedish: Riksantikvarieämbetet, RAÄ) is a Swedish governmental agency responsible for World Heritage Sites in Sweden and other national heritage monuments and historical environments. It is governed by the Ministry of Culture. The goals of the agency are to encourage the preservation and protection of historic environments and to promote the respect for and knowledge of historic environments. In order to do this, it tries to ensure that Swedish heritage is accessible to all citizens, to spread information about that heritage, and to "empower heritage as a force in the evolution of a democratic, sustainable society".
Presentation
[edit]In 2012 a Wikipedia developer in residence was hired. Among plenty of things a tool was created that allows for transfers of images from the image database "Kulturmiljöbild" to Wikimedia Commons was created along with a supporting template: {{Kulturmiljöbild-image}}.
In January 2014 The Swedish National Heritage Board donated images from its open content collection. This first batch upload of around 1,000 images was a pilot project with Europeana.
In 2017 a collaboration with Wikimedia Sverige took place where they uploaded over 9,000 images from Kulturmiljöbild, all of which was identified to be a specific object, making it possible to use the templates {{BBR}} and {{Fornminne}} on each of the uploads. These images can be found in Category:Media contributed by RAÄ: 2017-06. An effort of mapping keywords to categories was made at Institution:Riksantikvarieämbetet/KMB/tags. This mapping was later reused for the upload of a further 173,012 images later in 2017.
