Ashik or Aşıq or Aşık or Ashugh or Ashugi or Ashyq or Ashuq are folk-singers of Anatolia and the Caucasus. They are a sort of mystic troubadours in Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, and Iran who sing their own poems playing the saz, a group of stringed musicial instruments similar to lutes.
