The Rucco Maag Shrine,[1] designated by the Trial name Five Flames,[1] is an Ancient Shrine in Breath of the Wild.

Entrance to the Shrine

Rucco Maag Shrine is located on the Samasa Plain in the Lanayru Great Spring. The Ancient Shrine is surrounded by spikes, and the area is patrolled by Lizalfos. As Link enters the Shrine, he is greeted by its Monk, Rucco Maag.[2]

Themes and Navigation

Rucco Maag Shrine features a large central chamber. The Monk's Pedestal can be seen from the Elevator Platform, but it is blocked by a lowered portcullis. Nearby is a floating cube with three Crystals adhered to its sides, all of which are labelled with pointing arrows.

Nearby, a larger cube is suspended above a pool of Water. Three stationary Torches are connected to its sides, with another connected to the structures on the left and right. On the left side of the cube, a pump sends Water forwards. The Torch on top of the larger cube is lit by Fire.

When a Crystal is struck, the larger cube will rotate in the direction indicated by its arrow. In order to progress through the Ancient Shrine, Link must light all of the stationary Torches on the large cube. Doing this will cause the portcullis blocking the Monk's Pedestal to rise.

When Link approaches Rucco Maag, the Monk will give him a Spirit Orb as a reward for overcoming the Trial.[3] Afterwards, Rucco Maag will wish Link well before fading away.[4]

On the other side of the cube, two metal Treasure Chest can be found sitting on wooden platforms. By shooting an Arrow through the Fire of the Torches, Link can burn the platforms, causing the Chests to fall to the ground. Inside, he will find an Opal and a Silver Bow.
