Mudboats are objects that appear in Super Mario Sunshine. These small boats are apparently constructed out of mud. Mario can stand inside one and control the mudboat's direction by spraying water from FLUDD's Squirt Nozzle in the opposite direction of which he desires to travel, similarly to leaf boats. Mudboats immediately sink if they come in contact with a solid object, unlike leaf boats, but Mario has a short chance to jump off the mudboat when this occurs. After sinking, a mudboat reappears in its original position.
Mudboats first appear in Noki Bay, where they are rented out from a boat rental shop for 90,000 coins. However, the Raccoon proprietor of the shop allows Mario to use the mudboats for free. During Episode 1, the boat rental shop's mudboat is adrift in the bay's slimy water, allowing safe travel over the slimy water from near the entrance to the area. Using mudboats is optional, but doing so can assist Mario in retrieving a blue coin above the water, as well as generally traversing the bay's water more quickly, particularly while it is polluted. Another mudboat is floating on magma midway through Corona Mountain. Mario is required to use this mudboat to reach the end of the level. The mudboat sinks if it touches any of the stalagmites or the water fountain in the center of the magma sea, requiring Mario to carefully steer the boat to the platform at the far end of the magma sea. The same mudboat can be used to collect nine blue coins located in a circle surrounding the platform at the end of the magma sea in Corona Mountain.
