Sonic Rush is Sonic's DS debut, featuring a soundtrack composed by Hideki Naganuma of Jet Set Radio fame. It also introduced Blaze the Cat and the Boost mechanic.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • See if the Sonic Advance 3 leftover voice clips from the E3 demo are still present. Try the downloadable demo (in the options menu) out for any oddities. There are more unused graphics (ac_sonic.bac, [1]). A map oddity.
  • Unused boss moves?

Unused Graphics

DUMMY.BAC

SONICRUSH DUMMY.gif

A seal animal buddy leftover from Sonic Advance. It's different from the one used in-game.

AC_ENE_TENTO.BAC

Tento Spritesheet SonicRush.png

A complete animated sprite set of Sonic Advance 3's Akatento and Aotento badniks, seems to be a leftover from that game. The transparency is also broken. It should be noted that it's found alongside the final game's enemies.

Ending Sketch

SonicRush final ed s 06.bbg.png Occupying an unused entry in Sonic's ending artwork is a rough version of the last artwork from Blaze's ending.

Boss Fights

SonicRush-z13.png
SonicRush-z13 tiles.png

Every boss map has a normally unseen 2D level that is used for collision and items for the boss battle. The example to the left shows the Level z13 (Zone 1 Act 3). Trying to load these levels as a non boss fight level will have various glitchy effects.

E3 Leftovers

Found with the other graphics, and helpfully prefixed with "e3" are these images. They can be seen in the E3 demo. e3_comsoon_jpn.bbg is a bit more descriptive than the _eng version, and says "Thank you for playing. Play the retail version to see what comes next!".

Unused Levels

Hmmm...
To do:
z82 [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hazpOG_e5FI [2] [3]. Try accessing the level in game via file swapping, to determine what music, background, timer and collision it uses. Create code to access unused levels.

z82

z82 is a unused level in Sonic Rush, it has files which refer to z32.

Unused Music Portions

After the Fight

Kick the Eggman

Sonic's and Blaze's respective Boss Defeated themes are normally cut off after around 7 to 12 seconds, but are actually about a minute and 30 seconds each. They are not featured in the official soundtrack, but can be played fully in the Sound Test.
