Sir Edward Charles Macnaghten of Dundarave, 5th Bt. was born on 9 October 1859.2 He was the son of Edward Macnaghten, Baron Macnaghten and Frances Arabella Martin.2 He married, firstly, Hon. Gwen Elca Violett Abbot, daughter of Charles Stuart Aubrey Abbott, 3rd Baron Tenterden and Penelope Mary Gertrude Smyth, on 20 March 1888.2 He married, secondly, Edith Minnie Powell, daughter of Thomas Powell, in January 1894.2 He died on 31 December 1914 at age 55.2
He graduated from Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1885 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He was appointed King's Counsel (K.C.) in 1897.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Antrim.1 He held the office of Bencher of Lincoln's Inn in 1904.3 He succeeded as the 5th Baronet Macnaghten, of Dundarave, co. Antrim [U.K., 1836] on 17 February 1913.2
