Walter Ball was the son of Bartholomew Ball and Margaret Bermingham.1 He married Eleanor Ussher, daughter of Robert Ussher and Margaret FitzJohn, they had three other sons and another daughter.1 He died on 8 December 1598.1 He was buried at St. Audeon's Church, Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1

He was a leading merchant at Dublin, County Dublin, IrelandG.1 He was part of the rebellion of 1580 for which he was imprisoned in Dublin Castle and had his estates forfeited. He was later pardoned and restored on payment of a heavy fine.1 He lived at Sprinkleston Castle, County Dublin, IrelandG.1
