William Crichton, 1st Earl of Dumfries was born circa 1578. He was the son of William Crichton and Katherine Carmichael.2 He married, firstly, Euphemia Seton, daughter of James Seton, 5th of Touch and Jean Edmonstone.2 He married, secondly, Ursula Barnham, daughter of Stephen Barnham, before 16 July 1630.2 He died from 15 August 1642 to 24 March 1642/43.2
