Description

Current issues:

  • Lack of connection between content and in-context table of content (sub-topics, etc.)
  • Lack of connection of where I am within the document and the entire length of page
  • Lack of direction of what else is around the current topic (related, what’s next, etc.)
  • “Edit source | Edit” is scattered on every single topic to subtopics. Amount of links is overwhelming. What other ways can we make sure “Edit source | Edit” can be easily available without the need to include these links on every topic to subtopics.

Will break up this task to separate tasks depending on solutions.

@violetto addressed this with T96515: Replace [edit | edit source] next to section title with edit pencil at the right end of the line, similar code was in present in Vector in 2013 but not enabled T43729: Tidy up and deploy Vector's sectionEditLinks (move section edit links next to headers). So we can put something like that in Blueprint's section header display and even only show it on hover/click. Having to distinguish Edit/Edit source makes it a little tricky but I think in 2014 in VE we've had Edit links that expand into the two choices.

I'd have to agree with the trickiness of Edit/Edit source. I use wikitext alot and always default to clicking on "Edit" and going back gets quite annoying with the wait.

@violetto Look into T107739 - currently we are hiding the "Table of Contents" headline in the sidebar via CSS, was this purposefully discussed?

I don't tend to get involved/prefer any certain way of how @Prtksxna or werda did the CSS. @Prtksxna might have discussed with werda about it.

@violetto Sorry, I seemed to be unclear in the question I'd like to get answered. Did we have a discussion on not showing the "Table of Contents" headline? Because I think it's good for the users to have it there and I wondered why it got hidden. Don't care about the technical aspects here.

By @Paladox "please add [...] tools and language to sidebar because currently I carnt find the link to all special pages anywhere."
