Phidippus est genus aranearum familiae Salticidarum. Nonnullae ex maximis Salticidis in hoc genere describuntur, et multis harum speciebus sunt virides chelicerae splendide iridescentes. Omnes species in America Septentrionali distribuuntur, duabus speciebus exportis (Phidippo audace et Phidippo regio) exceptis.[1] Anno 2004 in genere fuerunt sexaginta species legitime descriptae. Species autem in Phidippo olim descriptae sed in India et Bangladesia inventae recte ad hoc genus non pertinent.[1]
Nomen
[recensere | fontem recensere]Nomen generis ut videtur ex oratione Ciceronis Pro Rege Deiotaro deducitur: Phidippus fuit servus et medicus Deiotari,[2] principalis tetrarchis Tolistobogiorum et regis Galatiae. Vocabulum Graece ad verbum significat 'qui equis parcit'.[3]
