Maulid[1] (Arabice مَولِد النَّبِي mawlidu n-nabiyyi 'dies natalis prophetae'; aliquando sermone quotidiano simpliciter مولد mawlid, mevlid, mevlit, mulud; aliquando ميلاد mīlād) est ritus diei natalis prophetae Mahometi, saepe celebratus die duodecimo Rabiae prioris, tertii mensis in calendario Islamico. Dies duodecimus Rabiae prioris est tempus populo gratissimum ex multis diebus dies natalis relatis; praeterea, dies duodecimus Rabiae prioris est solus dies mortis relatus.[2]

Observantia Maulid aevo primorum quattuor calipharum Islamicorum coepit, rectorum qui apud Sunnos erant caliphae probe ducti.[3] Celebratio huius diei natalis a Fatimidis continuata est, et in terris in eorum dicionem redactis celebrabatur.[4] Imperium Ottomanicum id festum publicum anno 1588 declaravit.[5] Nomen proprium Maulid in nonnullis regionibus mundi adhibetur, sicut Aegyptus, ritus natales aliorum personarum religiosorum historicorum, sicut sancti Sufistici, significans.

Plurimae sectae religionis Islamicae commemorationem diei natalis Mahometi approbant,[6][7] sed nonnullae, inter quas Wahhabismus, Salafismus, Deobandismus, et motus Ahmadiyya, hanc commemorationem improbant, quam novitam religiosam non necessariam (bid'ah vel bidat) appellant.[8][9]

Maulid festum nationale agnoscitur in plurimis civitatibus orbis terrarum ubi Musulmani sunt maior pars, Arabia Saudiana et Quataria exceptis, quia Wahhabistica et Salafistica publice sunt.
