Need Public Domain Photo for this article
[edit]Does anyone have a photo of Zap Mama or Marie Daulne that they have taken at one their concerts that they are willing to upload and put into public domain. Reservoirhill 21:00, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Did Zap Mama leave Luaka Bop Records?
[edit]I noticed that their new album "Supermoon" was not released through Luaka Bop, their long-time label. Is there any news or citation to confirm this? If so, should it be mentioned in the article?

Merge Ancestry in Progress to here?
[edit]It is a stub article that does not assert its independent notability; either of these alone is a reason to merge. Comments? --Rogerb67 (talk) 01:32, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

Separate Articles?
[edit]This article is fundamentally identical to the entry for Maurie Daulne, and as such, I'm not sure that both need to exist. Absurdist1968 (talk) 06:56, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
- That is I wanted to state, too. Besides, the whole "cycle" idea is to constructed. This article should be one of the ensemble and then refer to Marie Daulne. MenkinAlRire 17:39, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Music in film, television, and video games
[edit]The last section about further use of songs in commercials and film soundtracks is not about creative output, it's about secondary exploitation of that output. It's worth mentioning for the rise of popularity, but it must not be described as an integral part of an artist's work. At least Daulne would not understand herself as part of an industry. Group name vs. singer name?
[edit]Zap Mama was originally the name of this a capella quintet (see video here) that performed from 1990 to 1995 and became well known around the world. During that time there was very little emphasis, if any, on Dualne status as the group's leader, or even as its lead singer; the group's members were always featured equally.
It wasn't till 1995, when Daulne apparently decided to pursue a solo career, that she started using the name "Zap Mama" to refer only to herself. (I don't know if it was Daulne's choice to disband the group, or if it was mutual; that's not clear here either.)
The article seems to intentionally downplay the group's history and significance. It has no details about, or photos of any of the rest of the group, but refers to them so obliquely as to imply they were simply Dualne's anonymous backup singers. (E.g.: "Daulne's music has evolved over the years from an a cappella quintet to a lead voice accompanied by instruments.")
Has this article been created to focus on Dualne's solo career? Perhaps there's been some animosity between her and the other singers that has lead them to disassociate themselves from each other. Nonetheless, shouldn't WP's article be as complete and objective as possible?
(Interestingly, this bio on the Rfi music site refers to Dualne only by her name, and only to the group as "Zap Mama".) – AndyFielding (talk) 05:43, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- Six years later: I have added the other former group members to the infobox, at least. Goyston talk, contribs 03:43, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
