Llanyrne

[edit]

Where is "Llanyrne Parish Church in Ross"? It's clearly not in Ross, Scotland. I can't find a church with a similar name near Ross-on-Wye. The most likely seems to be Llanyre (Llanllŷr-yn-Rhos) near Llandrindod Wells. Any other suggestions? Can we find a citable source? Verbcatcher (talk) 15:51, 12 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is most probably Llanyre in what was Radnorshire.Cloptonson (talk) 15:57, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

'right wing'?

[edit]

Powell has emerged as a leading case study for the right wing elements of Seventeenth Century English Non Conformity and their relationship to the larger Puritan movement.

This uncited statement is questionable. 'Right wing' and 'left wing' were political metaphors that were derived from the positioning of seats in the French Revolutionary National Assembly of the 1790s, right being the politically conservative elements. 'Right wing' is a description I would hesitate to ascribe anachronistically to Powell as who had praised the execution of Charles I. Powell and his contemporaries are best judged by the political standards of their own time. (The French National Assembly were to be instrumental in the execution of Louis XVI which in certain ways mirrored that of Charles I.)Cloptonson (talk) 15:57, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your argument. Unless this anachronistic characterization of some Puritan views is found in a reliable source, it should be removed. Thank you, warshy (¥¥) 17:39, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am not a specialist in this area, but 'right wing' is unclear to me in this context. I suggest the following edit:
  • Powell has emerged as a leading case study for the right wing elements of seventeenth century English Non Conformity and their its relationship to the larger Puritan movement.
Or we could delete the paragraph, which is unsourced. Verbcatcher (talk) 05:17, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your suggested edit would be good with me, but since it is unsourced maybe the best option after all is just to delete it? Thank you, warshy (¥¥) 19:02, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
