Personal info section

[edit]

I moved several sections dealing with T.I's personal life to the talk page since it should be sourced more strictly to WP:BLP, and it was difficult to understand the info and how it was sourced. Flowanda | Talk 11:26, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you just removed the incredibly important information relating to his possible incarceration for a number of years because you didnt fully understand it? Cardigan3000 (talk) 04:32, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest Adding : T.I. is from Atlanta, Ga. More specifically he is from Bankhead, Ga. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kjsimmons (talkcontribs) 18:25, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article claims that T.I. is of Cherokee descent through his grandmother, but neglects to specify which band and which clans he is. It also neglects to specify which grandmother has Indigenous heritage. The source cited for the claim that T.I. is Cherokee is an Instagram post that does not specify that T.I. is Native American. Additionally, none of the Federally-recognized Cherokee bands claims T.I. or his family in their records. Therefore, this sentence and the associated source should be removed from the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.21.81.229 (talk) 02:25, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A section on T.I.'s recent legal issues has been added by at least two different users. Unfortunately, both additions were copyright violations. Note that it is not acceptable to copy and paste text from another source, even if you change the occasional word (or even a lot of the words). At least, not unless that source releases the text under the GFDL, and you make note of the author. Copyright violations are very serious matters, so please be extremely careful before adding this section back to the article. There's no doubt the section belongs here, but we cannot accept copyright violations. --Yamla (talk) 21:47, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Criminal??

[edit]

There is no longer an area of this article called "Criminal History", it has been changed to a more politically correct term of "Legal Issues." I have a huge problem with this section that wikipedia will not allow to be edited by the general public. It says: T.I. was arrested on an outstanding probation violation warrant from Florida. The warrant claimed that T.I. did not complete the required number of community service hours he was sentenced for a 2003 assault of a female sheriff deputy at University Mall in Tampa. T.I. was detained by several mall Security Guards at the time of the incident, among them, Jason Phillips (founder of Certified Protective Services), Larry Warner (founder of Tactical Response Services), and Arturo Ortiz, now a security manager in Florida. Here it is talking about his legal issues, but fails to mention his arrest for hitting a deputy until after it says he was arrested for failing to complete his community service. It says several mall security guards detained him at the time of the incident, is this the time of the incident where he assaulted the deputy or when he failed to complete community service hours. Furthermore, it list the private individuals names and companies unrelated to the issue at hand, and this information is not relevant to the article.

It should be noted that the source used to verify T.I.'s legal consequences are not the reliable. A better source would most likely be his own website where he states that he must complete 1500 hours of community service. Veda13 (talk) 07:17, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In the Legal Issues section, is it necessary to name the mall security guards and their firms? Seems irrelevant, and just like some unverifiable resume-building. (Dmoon (talk) 20:39, 24 February 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Grammar problem: Denote not Donate

[edit]

I think when the author wrote: "He was at one time known as Rubber Band Man, a reference to the custom of wearing rubber bands around the wrist to donate wealth in terms of drugs or money"

S/He meant: "He was at one time known as Rubber Band Man, a reference to the custom of wearing rubber bands around the wrist to DENOTE wealth in terms of drugs or money"

DENOTE as in "to signify" (rather than donate: to give)

I'm not sure how to fix this. Can someone help?

Rubber Band Man reference

[edit]

The reference to why he was called The Rubber Band Man is incorrect, as is what the term means.

He was called the Rubber Band Man because he had enough money to need to wrap it in rubber bands, and have several "knots" of said money. Dope dealers don't wear bands on their wrists to signify wealth. the rubber bands are kept on the wrist for easy access when counting money or bagging narcotics. Crack cocaine is sometimes packaged in small pieces of plastic bag or saran wrap, which is then rubber-banded to seal it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pendizzle (talkcontribs) 23:16, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

T.I.T.I. (rapper)WP:RECENT WP:PRECISION WP:RECOGNIZABILITY WP:ASTONISH; many meanings for T.I., Texas Instruments, Tube Investments etc., so should redirect to TI dab page. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:58, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose The musician is clearly the primary topic, for all other meaning there is a disambiguation page. There are 1000+ internal links to the current page, also the article has been getting a lot of traffic - approx. 5000 views a day for a long time. 2Flows (talk) 14:46, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. It can hardly be said that the rapper is the most important historical topic under this name. Viewcount of a base page name tells you nothing about what the reader intended to look for, or how they got there. Incoming links are easily fixed. bd2412 T 15:08, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:NATURAL. Most certainly is the primary topic of "T.I.". The support above attempts to discredit the obvious largely higher view count on this page, by saying readers were looking for something else. That is in no way correct. T.I. is one of the most popular recording artists in the world and any online search in News, Books or otherwise turn up pages and pages of results for just this person, before anything else. The incoming links point is related to being that nearly all articles that include T.I. are linking to this article. STATic message me! 16:10, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think the incoming links are largely a result of (a) cross collaboration of rappers, (b) 8 or 9 templates, each one on 30 pages. I just dabbed-out to T.I. rapper, which is completely harmless, and the number of links immediately dropped rapidly. It will still be work to fix. And contrary to below, T.I. does have dots for the companies. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:53, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: It's worth remembering that the title of this page is T dot I dot, as it were. Companies often don't have dots, as is the case for the above two mentioned (per their articles at any rate). Someone consciously typing the dots is most likely looking for the rapper. In any case, I am inclined to say that T.I. the rapper is the primary topic, per the view counts and search results and his huge popularity. A Google search on "TI" (no quotes) brings up the rapper in the primary infobox, despite the lack of dots in the search. BethNaught (talk) 16:23, 27 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong support WP:RECENTISM -- T.I. is used to refer to Texas Instruments, historically. Also formal language uses "dots" (periods) in abbreviations, so it persists in military language. Indeed fully formal specification would be T. I. (with a space) ; therefore these should all point to the disambiguation page. -- 65.94.169.222 (talk) 07:22, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Clifford Harris is a very-very(x1000) popular musician under the stage name T.I., while all those TI named organizations and things have their official names instead of abbreviations. Definitely T.I. is the most important topic under this name!. --Eurofan88 (talk) 19:18, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:STATicVapor, that's a misreading: "most important" can mean 20% of Google Books references, but WP:PRIMARYTOPIC requires 60-70% of Google Book hits, am I wrong? Have you run "TI is" "TI was" in Google Books search? In ictu oculi (talk) 00:21, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It does not say anywhere in WP:PRIMARYTOPIC that it requires 60-70% of Google Book hits. STATic message me! 02:30, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it does, that is exactly what it says; a topic that gets less than the majority of Book hits cannot be a Primary topic. as it stands the rapper only gets 10% of the Google Book hits for TI relating to Texas Instruments, let alone the sum of all TIs. The only way a primary topic can be argued is claiming the dots are unique. But they aren't. In ictu oculi (talk) 14:52, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please quote where in primary topic it says that, because it does not. As for your Google search, the results are not much a tell of primary due to your geographical location and search history. Not to mention, a Google books search is not the end result for a judge of primary topic, you seem to not understand it. STATic message me! 15:13, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know a better indicator than a Google Book search as the arbiter of primary topic? That search clearly shows Texas Instruments is more frequent by a factor of x10 than the rapper. And the correct link is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, WP:PRIMARY (linked above) relates to primary sources:

and more likely than all the other topics combined

This means what it says, "more likely than all the other topics combined" means and more likely than all the other topics combined, which means 50%+1 not 10%. But we generally look for 60-70% to be sure that it really is "more likely than all the other topics combined". The opposes above have all not referenced or misunderstood what "more likely than all the other topics combined" and Google Book hits for TI relating to Texas Instruments are 10x higher than the rapper's Google Book hits for TI/T.I. above. In ictu oculi (talk) 22:21, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is a disastrously out-of-context quote. The actual quote: "much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term" and is in reference to usage statistics on Wikipedia. I guess that was just a mistake? Must've been just a mistake? Man, we're all human, we all make big blunders (and me most of all!) - surely you didn't intentionally do that! Red Slash 17:38, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How is that a misquote. You're saying that readers who search Wikipedia are somehow a different species from Google Book hits and Google Books are to be disregarded? Then why bother to consult books at all. Why not move all the trivial recent topics to primary positions and relegate everything pre 2012. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:09, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, yes, what readers look for on Wikipedia is often substantially different than what authors write Google Book-worthy books about. I am not sure why this is news to you. Perhaps a perusal of the latest traffic report will clarify your misconception. Red Slash 16:43, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Verbal diarrhoea

[edit]

No disrespect to T.I. or his many fans, but very few people will want to read 10,000 words on this subject. The article needs to be boiled down to half its present length (or less). Wikipedia is not a repository for storing everything that has ever been said about anything. It is an encyclopedia, whose articles should provide a summary of the essential points in a concise and readable form. You are not doing the world or T.I. any favours by going long; you are wasting people's time. Readers who are not diehard fans will look at an article like this and say, "Nah, can't be bothered." What is the point? 86.189.15.130 (talk) 08:03, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Irving Plaza Shooting

[edit]

There was a shooting tonight at his concert at Irving Plaza in lower Manhattan. Some people are reporting that TI is dead. However, this is a breaking story and pretty much nothing is reliably known. [3] Rklawton (talk) 03:47, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I added a one-line mention from the NY Times, seems like a reliable source. Rockypedia (talk) 05:21, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Terms or not

[edit]

Hey, just a quick question, what's your obsession with the annoying "known professionally as" term? Just tell me. Wikipedia has no rule saying "known professionally as" is only allowed instead of "better known by his/her/the stage names". Mr.Shadow514 (talk) 03:28, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Also, how is the long term "known professionally by the stage names" not easier to read if he had 2 stage names? And what do you mean see cited sources? Is it because of you obsession with the "known professionally as" term? I just wanna know. Mr.Shadow514 (talk) 22:05, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Those are not really stage names, they are just his lifelong nicknames that he also uses professionally. – notwally (talk) 01:32, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
