Hi, the sentence "Rossington, the last original member of the band, died on March 5, 2023, though no cause of death was given" seems odd, due to the "though", I guess. Almost as if he died without cause. "Rossington, the last original member of the band, died on March 5, 2023, with no statement given on the cause of death"? Not native EN speaker, so pls. consider. Rossington though dead is still listed as a touring member. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.2.178.30 (talk) 06:05, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When will the Skynyrd lineup be updated to include Damon Johnson as full time guitarist

Rickey Medlocke joined the band 5 years after they were formed, and is not a founding member

[edit]

Skynyrd formed in the summer of 1966, i have edited and supplied references before, but it was rejected, the info on this wiki page is hardly accurate, Rickey was not a founding member, Bob Burns left the band in the spring of 1971, Rickey was bought in to replace him. i can help with references to this info, from multiple sources, incuding Charlie Hagrett of Blackfoot also confirms this info.

Rickey Medlocke joined the band 5 years after they were formed, , it is well documented, in many books and movie documenteries, the Bob Burns was the founding Member, Rickey Medlock Joined in Late Spring of 1971, and was last seen with the band on April 10th 1972, Travis1969 (talk) 19:02, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This Wiki article first mentions Medlocke as joining in early 1970s later in the "Early years" section currently. Burns is listed at the very top of the "Early years" section, implying he is an original member. -Fnlayson (talk) 19:37, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
yes , i see it has been changed back, there is still the issue of 1964, Summer of 1966 is when they formed,

Early years (1966[11]–1973)
Leonard Skinner was a physical education instructor at Robert E. Lee High School (pictured) in Jacksonville, Florida known for his strict enforcement of the school's regulations on male hair length.
In Jacksonville, Florida, during the summer of 1966[12], Ronnie Van Zant, Bob Burns, and Gary Rossington became acquainted while playing on rival baseball teams. The trio decided to jam together one afternoon after Burns was injured by a ball hit by Van Zant. They set up their equipment in the carport of Burns' parents' house and played the Rolling Stones' then-current hit "Time Is on My Side". Liking what they heard, they immediately decided to form a band. They soon approached guitarist Allen Collins to join the band, though Collins initially fled on his bicycle and hid in a tree at the sight of Van Zant pulling into his driveway. Collins was soon convinced that Van Zant meant him no harm and he agreed to join the fledgling band.[13] Bassist Larry Junstrom soon rounded out the lineup and the band settled on the name The Noble Five[14][15] before becoming The One Percent by 1968.[15]

In 1965 Ronnie was 17 y.o., and after Ronnie saw Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones, with in a 11 months Ronnie had joined the teenage band
"The Squires" Ronnie was older and took charge and they changed their name to "US".
Ronnie was in the band "US" in 1965/66.
This bought Ronnie in contact with Allen Collins in 1966.
In 1966 Allen Collins was in a band called "The Mods" with Larry Steele they both attended Lake Shore Junior High School.(Gary also went there)
"The Mods" came up against "US" at a Battle of the bands.
This is where Larry Steele and Allen Collins met Ronnie!
Everybody knew of Ronnie as he had a reputation as a tough guy says Larry.
The Mods were :
James Rice, Larry Steele, Allen Collins, Donnie Ulsh.
The Squires / US, were :
Lead Guitarist - Rick Doeschler, Bassist - Jimmy Parker, Drummer - Steve Rosenbloom, and, Guitarist/vocalist -Taylor Corse.

The second battle was scheduled for May 27, 1966, the winner of which would be booked to play the Ninth Grade Prom in early June. Because the Lake Shore gymnasium was still under construction, the event was initially to be held again in the school cafeteria, which was not at all satisfactory to any of the participants.

The Skynyrd evidence path, the paperwork trail / a date trail starts in the summer of 1966.
there is no Skynyrd History before 1966.
-
There was no 1964, in Skynyrd's history, it starts in the summer of 1966.
They met at a baseball game, and formed a band in the Summer of 1966 , their first gig was in October 1966, they performed with no Name,
second gig was a christmas party for Bill Morris, they went by the name "The Pretty Ones" for one gig. Before the summer of 1966, their is no Skynyrd History!!!
1964 is way off!!
-
Ronnie was 18 when he started singing with Bob and Gary in the Car port in the summer of 1966, Allen Collins was 14, Don't believe Wiki , anybody can edit a wiki page. and its easy to just google it and pass on wiki info, but where does that info come from!
if you are one to say that Skynyrd formed in 1964, (there is no evidence) then you have dozens of other stories and pieces of info, that dont fit and you will have to re -explain!!1964 does not fit with the evidence/info that is out there!
Lynyrd Skynyrd's History begins in the Summer of 1966 at a baseball game at Criswell Park , Jacksonville. Ronnie was playing on a eam called the Green Pigs.

Early Timeline incongruity

[edit]

It says that Van Zant, Rossington, and Burns formed a band in early summer. The very next paragraph says the three met through baseball and formed a band in late summer. I’m not familiar enough with the band’s history to dare to edit this 2607:9880:21C7:FF35:B86A:6794:6DD2:3AE5 (talk) 19:47, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nonsensical sentence?

[edit]

The last sentence in the fourth paragraph under the subtitle “Member changes and deaths (1996–2019)” seems run-on, subsequently doesn’t make sense, and needs editing: "The band also released a double collection album called Thyrty, which had songs from the original lineup to the present, and also a live DVD of their Vicious Cycle Tour and on June 22, 2004, the album Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve: The Vicious Cycle Tour.
