Pokemon mini Follow Up

[edit]

Thank you very much for replying, it is much appreciated. I will ask those at Pokeme about the game. If you ever do find any proof, please drop me a further line on my user talk page. Kelestar 12:40, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pokemon mini Tetris

[edit]

Hello, I am responding to a comment you made upon the Pokemon mini history page that the Tetris game was in fact released in Europe. I know that it was indeed translated to English but I was under the firm impression that it was never released. Please note that this is not a malicious comment; but I am just a concerned collector who thought he owned all of the English Pokemon mini games and now finds himself in a bad position! Please contact me on my user page to discuss this further. Thanks for your time. Kelestar 22:41, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo article

[edit]

Hi Thaddius. You're a Nintendo fan from your edits. Am I correct? As such, I'd appreciate your opinion on a recent edit that was made to the Nintendo article; about the pioneering method of the Wii's controller technology. If you wouldn't mind taking a look, it would be great. Thanks! Ex-Nintendo Employee 05:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not a HUGE Nintendo fan, but I'll take a look. --Thaddius 12:05, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Virtual Boy article

Ok, I've put in the modified version of the paragraph you wrote. I hope you think its ok. Again, I'm sorry if you felt I was being mean, agressive or condescending- it wasn't intended at all. You're a valuable asset to Wikipedia and you've made a lot of good edits, and hopefully we can get this disagreement worked out. Ex-Nintendo Employee 01:12, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: The Order

[edit]

Hi Thaddius

This is the infamous SilentHylian of the IMDb "Silent Hill" Board. ;) I wanted to let you know how great I think The Order page that it looks you're largely responsible for is. It is perhaps one of the most comprehensive understandings of their belief systems I've seen online. However, there are two errors I thought I'd call to your attention instead of editing myself.

The Cult depicted in the film is not The Order, as was confirmed by Gans himself in this article:

"There isn´t just one Cult in Silent Hill. Why? Because what we wanted to do with the movie, and we probably were a bit ambitious, was to open the Silent Hill mythology, to open as many leads as possible." -Christophe Gans

Original Text: http://blogs.allocine.fr/blogs/index.blog?blog=allocine&themeID=3307 Translation: http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-345768.html

The other is with reference to the sects of the Order:

The three sects are The Holy Mother Sect, The Saint Ladies Sect abd The Valtiel Sect which mediates between them. There is no "Holy Woman" sect. Please see here and click on Victim 01/21 page 2: http://translatedmemories.com/victimfiles.html

My attempts to edit other Silent Hill pages on Wikipedia are usually not, how shall I put this? Well received. I thought by contacting you first, I might more easily arrive at my intended result and mission as "SilentHylian": distribution of accurate Silent Hill information online.

Thanks! SilentHylian

Thanks for your quick reply.

[edit]

Sorry if this was unclear. I wasn't suggesting that the Cult in the games is not the Order, just that the Cult depicted in the film isn't them. Hope that's more clear. I just noted I said the opposite of what I meant above in my original note to you. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks again for your quick reply!

So sorry!

[edit]

I created more confusion than I had hoped to dispel by using the wrong word.

The cult depicted in the game is in fact the Order. We know this as of Silent Hill 3's article by Joseph Schreiber (of SH4 fame) found in Brookhaven Hospital:

"The cult religion that operates "Hope House" is known by the locals simply as "The Order"."

The cult depicted in the film however, is not, as per the link to Gans I provided initially.

I hope this clarifies things. Feel free to take an authoritative stance on this with this entry as you now have the sources to back up both claims as well as the proper names of the 3 Sects.

To which I replied:

While I'm open to criticism, I do not apprecaite your slander. I imagine it's quite clear from the fact that I'm writing and reading Wikipedia that I am in fact not illiterate. But whatever, while we're at it, you forgot:

agruing -> arguing
focussing -> focusing
affinty -> affinity

My user name, Thaddius, is spelled correctly, thank you. It is not my fault that you aren't open to alternate spellings of names. Also, the '\' that I used is fine. You're just being picky. I fixed the real errors, cause they seem to bother you enough to call me a 'shithead'.

Apparently this person doesn't know how to spell my name, nor does he have enough balls to sign up for a real account to make edits. I'm going to do what I can to make sure that their IP is banned.

UPDATE: It already WAS banned. Apparently I'm not the first person to be attacked by this user. Their ip is 69.108.175.213; their former user profile is Lysdexia. If anyone here reading this notices any activity on their part, please inform a moderator.

Silent Hill influences and trivia

[edit]

I finally got around to consolidating all of the SH trivia sections onto one page : Silent Hill influences and trivia. There were a whole bunch of duplications between the trivia sections, a lot of scattershot Jacob's Ladder stuff, and more inane movie comparisons and half-assed theories than I care to recall. I figured I'd drop you a line, because you show up quite a bit in the SH page histories. :' ) Tzaquiel 17:06, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent; thanks for your contributions. I'd be curious to know who inspires your bass playing - I'm a musician as well. Are you, by any chance, a Justin Cherry fan? Uncanny

[edit]

Please can you give a reference for Uncanny, since unsourced articles are liable to speedy deletion, thanks, Jimfbleak.talk.07:24, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I watch new pages, mainly to bash the vandals and delete the teenage junk. The encyclopaedia has tightened up on sourcing, so the main thing is to have something there. Your article was obviously genuine, but some of the cleverer vandals create plausible spoofs, which is why the policy has been made stricter, thanks, Jimfbleak.talk.07:54, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nintendo userbox

[edit]

No, there can't be any fair use images in UBXs. I would say that the text Nintendo in red, with a white background, would do a nice job. Scepia 22:53, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lemme give you a short lesson, it's very important in more places than UBXs. There's 2 types of images: FAIR USE and FREE USE. Fair use images are copyrighted, and low-resolution versions may be used for information purposes. Free use images are not copyrighted, and may be used in many ways. They are usually licensed under the GFDL, which means there is no limitation on the size or where on Wikipedia you put the image. It is required that you allow others to freely use the image elsewhere though. So, if you host a free use image on your website, you must allow others to use it freely wherever they wish. I hope that makes sense. Scepia 00:21, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

I noticed that one of the images you uploaded for Silent Hill influences and trivia, Image:Sh - billskinsfifth.jpg, was listed as being in public domain. As a screenshot of the game, I see no way this is possible. I removed the tag from that image in hopes it would get someone's attention that something was amiss, as I don't know proceedure for dealing with that sort of thing, but when I saw it was you I figured I should warn you so you could try to use some sort of appropriate Fair Use tag. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 22:55, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nevertheless, the games themselves are subject to copyright. I would put up some tags if I were you. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 00:38, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for putting up the tags. Nevertheless, that's an awful lot of images. I wouldn't be suprised if someone tries to get some of them deleted as an abuse of Fair Use. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 15:17, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can't claim to be an authority on the subject, but I'm not sure uploading that many images would be allowed, or is indeed necessary for prove the claims. I mean, plot synopsyses for works usually don't need to be sourced. I wouldn't demand a picture to prove, say, the presence of the corpse behind the wall in SH3 (just looking through the trivia page).
But, just out of curiosity, do you have an image of James and Maria in the nightmare verison of the hospital fighting a nurse? It would work well to illustrate the Silent Hill 2 page.--Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 15:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see. Well, I can imagine that an unofficial internet guide would be considered a non-source. I personally won't raise any objections to using the images as external links, but I thought I'd best warn you that someone else might.

I guess it's inevitable that a lot of the trivia would have to go anyway. I don't think there's much more from the Silent Hill 2 section I could sqeeze itno the article neatly, and there's still a few points left. I can imagine a lot of the trivia would have to go even if the page stays, and I'd say you're winning the debate for the time being.

And if you are willing to get a screnshot for me, I don't think quality will be much of a problem. If anything, it'll reassure me that it is a lower resolution than the original --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 16:17, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for trying, anyway. I'll put up an image request on the talk page. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 09:04, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Silent Hill 2

[edit]

I was trying to find a source for the San Bruno thing, as you didn't think the one form the talk page could be used, being it was an apparent fan site. I was able to find this, but the link to the pictures is dead and Internet Archive brings up nothing. Do you think it could still be a possible source? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 16:45, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll add it. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:50, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A few more questions about sources, I'm afraid:

  1. Is this an accurate transcript of the Silent Hill 2 making of DVD? Someone put it up on the talk page concerning the "James" body in the apartment.
  2. The Silent Hill trivia article cites this for the X-Play scariest game thing. Is it an acceptable source? It's pretty YouTubeish.

By the way, I've commented on the deletion debate of the trivia page. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 12:10, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I done a lot of work, and I think it might be approaching GA quality. There are just a few things:

  1. Still haven't added the Making of DVD to sources as I don't know for sure if the transcript is accurate, as the link has been working for me. I've only played the second game, and don't know much about the series aside from what I've read here or read in research for this page.
  2. How shall the Book of Lost Memories be cited? Just as Book of Lost Memories or with the individual translated pages? Can said pages be used as themselves as a source, or would citing the pages directly constitute a link to a copyright violaiton?
  3. Do you know of any pages claiming inspiration from Hans Bellmer for the mannequin besides our own and the fan site?

All the rest shouldn't be too difficult. Just need to clear a few unsourced statements, possibly add some more reviews, and then I'd feel ready to submit it as a canadate. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 18:32, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing. Could you add a synopsys for "Born From a Dream" to the Releases section if you can? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 18:42, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just nominated it last night. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 09:27, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've gotten some comments on the talk page of SH2. You said in the trivia article that the creators acknowledge David Lynch as an inspiration in Book of Lost Memories. Can you tell me exactly where? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:58, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find anything on that site with the translated pages. Do you know if their translation is complete? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 20:34, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Super Paper Mario releasedate

[edit]

Hi Thaddius,

The reason I changed the releasedate link in the Super Paper Mario article is that the Nintendo press site it links to is not public, and thus doesn't make for a good reference, as it can't be verified.

Samael

[edit]

it's fine. But I whoever said the God was Samael I took out and should be left out. It's general knowledge that the image of God that dhalia had is of Baphomet.Xuchilbara 18:10, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If Metatron was not mention in Sh1 please explain this [2] in the Sh1 guide book "Q: What is the Seal of Metatron?

A: It's like a spell of annihilation." Although the translation is not official, the book is. It predates Sh3 and it's copyrighted 1999. It also does not explain the last time I played Sh1 nor the time I watched the ending of Sh1 on youtube where she clearly states it in subtitles

And explain the plot guides that mention Metatron in Sh1, regardless of 3. For example this was written BEFORE Sh3 [3], one of the ppl states "Well, this FAQ is finished for now, Silent Hill 3 is around the corner in Japan, and I will add to this document upon its release. Until next time, folks! - CVXFREAK" and [4] quotes Dahlia on it. How long has it been since you played Sh1?

Xuchilbara 22:56, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think you completely misunderstood the entire edit. I never implied that Metatron and Samael are the same person. Nor did I take sides. And I nnever used fan translations as sources on the monsters' page.

I was just peeved at the Metatron mention in Sh1, Dahlia mentions it in Sh1 and since the statement is "Metatron is only explicitly mentioned in the series through The Talisman Of Metatron or Seal of Metatron (Also known as the Virun VII Crest.) in Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3." You omitted the mention in one for some reason.

It doesn't state anywhere that I was implying Samael and Metatron are the same being or anything biased or even fan speculation. Xuchilbara 20:29, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Also, sorry for the cattiness. Xuchilbara 14:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Silent Hill's The Order sects:

[edit]

The three known sects are "The Sect of the Holy Woman," "The Sect of the Holy Mother," and "The Sect of Valtiel." The "Saint Ladies Sect" is a poor translation of "The Sect of the Holy Woman." You can consult numerous Japanese speaking Silent Hill fans to confirm this.

Silent Hill PH thing

[edit]

sup, you seem to know a lot about silent hill. i was reading your argument on PH with some other dude, and thought it was just fascinating, no sarcasm. i never thought about it while watching the movie, but how is it that if alessa has the hugeass fear of men, that she can control PH? why does she even need him? like in the end when shes giving the cult leader bitch her "punishment", it made it obvious she had like beastly abilities, like controlling barbed wire. so yeah

Thanks for the interest (I almost forgot about that discussion). The whole purpose of dark & misty SH is to torture the members of the congregation\church, and it's made quite clear that these alternate Silent Hills are created by Alessa. I got the idea that the creatures that wander Silent Hill were manifestation of Alessa's subconscious fears running amok (kids in school = screaming babies; nurses = hospital experience; acid spewing bipeds = adults\congregation, and; to me, PH = janitor that raped\molested her), because, where else would they come from? (also because it's evident in the first game). Because of this, I would think that Alessa would have some kind of control over them, but not an overt one - the monsters seem to have a general hostility toward everyone in the town save for Alessa (the nurses seem to be guarding her).
In the final scene it seems like everything just came to a head - Rose helped Alessa get into the church where her and her monsters couldn't go before, and Alessa is able to use her overt powers to dispatch the congregation.
This is of course, my own interpretation of the situation, and could be wrong, but it's what makes sense to me. If you haven't already, there are a few plot guides to the SH games at gamefaqs.com (search 'Silent Hill' and look under 'FAQs' for the plot guides), if you're interested, but I suggest you play the games before doing so (although not necessary). --Thaddius (talk) 16:40, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Research for Silent Hill

[edit]

Ok, just to show how much I HATE the continuance of trivial arguments, I have been researching this, rather than do real work :) We ALL know that Heather Morris is the name of an actress, in fact she voiced Heather in SH3, and some other voices in other projects [1]. We all know that Heather's name was originally going to be "Helen", but it was decided at the last minute that Helen was too "old fashioned", so they changed her first name to Heather, PARTLY after the woman who voiced her [2] (partly plant based: Dahlia...Heather...see the trend?). We ALSO know that Heather was Harry Mason's daughter, which makes her full name ... Heather Mason! This quote from Hiroyuki Owaku is vital: "Heather- Her name comes from Miss Heather Morris, who did Heather's voice and motion in the game. At first we had chosen the name "Helen," but it was pointed out that this name is old-fashioned and so it was changed. French actresses such as Charlotte Gainsbourg and Vanessa Paradis were her models." - Hiroyuki Owaku". As I am somewhat familiar with CONTRACTS in the entertainment industry, I can gurantee you that Ms. Heather Morris the actress would have been paid TRUCKLOADS MORE MONEY if they 100% named the character after her. You can see there there was a protracted debate on this very matter regarding the Mason family (of which Heather is a part of) [3]. Based on this, someone should re-do the "Heather Morris" article to be about the actress, including her roles in SH and remove the redirect. I would still do the aka table in the article though :) BMW(drive) 08:32, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The FoJ Issue

[edit]

Hey. I can't say I'm overly happy about the current situation with FoJ. Truly, they have let their misunderstanding of Wikipedia (and completely misjudging people who try to help them) cloud their judgement. They were banned for a week, then a little too obviously opened a new account and went back to the same editing which got them the longer ban. It's truly sad, and I can't say I'm celebrating - nor should any of us. BMW(drive) 18:58, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can't say I like the idea that someone got themselves permabanned either, especially over something to trivial, but I'm at least glad that the situation can finally be resolved. --Thaddius (talk) 19:37, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll admit that one user (and I won't say who) probably needled her just a little too much, and those of us who were trying to help her got "lumped in". We all know she'll be back, and it will be obvious when it happens. While I usually admire passion, she needs some guidance to become a good editor. BMW(drive) 11:09, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, saw your question on my talk ... no, FoJ/Weisheit was talking about User:Mr_T_(Based), and not you. Mr. T was someone else that they rubbed the wrong way, then acted all passive-aggressive on them. BMW(drive) 21:05, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. I was hoping that FoJ and Weisheit were both using the same nickname for me because that would be a strange\incriminating coincidence. Alas, that's not the case. --Thaddius (talk) 19:10, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
