Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Public consultation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Heckling. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ ‱ Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Tidying up page

[edit]

Apologies for terse comment earlier. You were correcting the page while I was also trying to correct it and I kept losing edits as a result. It arose because I had published before checking as I had already lost all the edits in an internet drop-out and was actually re-entering content that had been removed from the original post by somebody who clearly was not a space scientist because the cuts made radically lessened and belittled Jim's massive contribution to space science. Hence my frustration - apologies. Mike MessageInABottle 18:12, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

Not to worry: in a few cases I thought you'd finished, so I jumped back in too soon, sorry about that. Collaborative editing isn't always easy, but we'll get there. Storchy (talk) 18:15, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I am a bit slow! Thanks for your help. By the way - I was keen to add Jeff Hughes name to the photo legend and the fact that the picture is published in one of my papers open access under CC-BY (with Jeffs permission: indeed he went to a great deal of trouble to supply it at maximum resolution for me) - in order to prevent its instant removal. The only other picture I have added was one I took myself of the Issac Koga medal that I personally won in 1990 and it was taken down with a (very) terse note that it was a blatant copyright violation! I dont want that happening again!

Thank you very much for all the work you've done on the article. But please note that if Mr. Hughes is the owner of that photo, and it's licensed under CC-BY, then permission or other verification will need to be communicated at Wikimedia Commons: the photo on Commons at the moment appears to have been copied from a copyrighted AGU paper at https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/2016SW001438, with no other source information added for that image. Have you got a link to the CC-BY paper you mentioned, so we can rescue it? Thanks.
(PS: to sign comments on a talk page, just type four tilde characters: ~~~~, and your username and posting date and time will automatically appear after your comment when you hit the "preview" or "publish" buttons. Storchy (talk) 19:06, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've tried explaining the problem to you already, and we just don't seem to be communicating well. To avoid further wasted effort, maybe you should try proposing changes at the talk page, Talk:Suresh Raina. There are several editors who seem to have that page on their watch list, so they will also see when you post at the talk page. Paclobutrazol

[edit]

Hi Storchy

Thanks for starting your clean-up of the paclobutrazol article, which was in a sorry state when I happened to take a look at it yesterday. As you know, I've added a chemistry section and I have some other changes in mind to explain its early and current use. However, I'll hold off for the moment until you have finished your copy-editing. I think that Invasive Spices plans to chip in also, so between us we should arrive at something worthwhile. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:01, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent, very grateful to both of you for your help. I'm not a chemist, so am eminently unqualified to write new content there, but happy to help formatting journal references etc.
It looks as if a teacher somewhere has asked their chemistry students to contribute to that article: as you wrote at Invasive Spices' talk page, it's a series of short, badly-sourced edits from a number of new accounts. Storchy (talk) 13:06, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

You removed a reference I added to a Court decision because I linked to LexisNexis's main page. How do you suggest I refer to the decision? The real link was this, and the link still works, but I think this kind of link is likely to break much more quickly than a link to the main page.Thanks. Briane from Chilliwack (talk) 21:25, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, both the original link and the one you've helpfully given above present only a login prompt, without an abstract or even a title of the decision. It's OK to cite a subscription-only resource: the "cite web" template includes a "url-access" option to show readers that it's paywalled, with a little red lock icon at the end of the reference. But how about we search for some other, more accessible link? Happy to help with this if I can: I've got university access to a fairly wide range of journals, if there's no open access version available. Storchy (talk) 21:45, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's no problem in finding the decision itself; it's here. But that's a primary source, and to be avoided even to prove that the action was dismissed, I'm told. Also, summarizing it would be WP:OR (I agree with that). I've tried hard to find an open secondary source, believe me. There's this, but it only has a single sentence about Griffith's action, and the explanation is confusing even for a person who knows the law.
Perhaps a combination of a reference to the primary open source and the subscription-only summary would be enough?
If you're inclined to continue the search, the references are [2008] NSWSC 764 and [2010] NSWCA 257. (That's the common way to refer to a legal decision.) Thanks. Briane from Chilliwack (talk) 01:08, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No intentional duplicate template arguments?

[edit]

I used duplicate arguments as a shortcut to mix passing parameters anonymously and by number, forgetting that this puts the page automatically in Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls. So, in the interest of not polluting the category, I take that this trick shouldn't be used even intentionally?

Specifically, I ask because I noticed you applied the auto fix to where I did this, which had the effect of simply removing the trick. I'm wondering if you know of an alternative way of passing that argument containing an equals sign (<span=
) without having to number all the other arguments. Of course, the straightforward way is to just number them all, but I'm always looking for cleverer syntax if it might exist. ;D  —wqnvlz (talk · contribs);  06:03, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Those are good questions, but I unfortunately have no answers. If you do come up with an easier solution, I'd be grateful if you could ping me back about it, and I'll try to document it. Thanks, Storchy (talk) 06:23, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Euon Brown

[edit]

Hi Storchy I was trying to update the Euon Brown page to make it more accurate but seen it has been altered back to the original text. I know Euon personally and he would like to have the page updated accurately. How do we go about doing that? 78.86.165.212 (talk) 10:26, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya, are you User:Gfleary? Best if you log back in first, thanks.
If Brown is a friend or a client of your, then you need to read WP:Conflict of interest carefully, and declare your interest like that page describes. If you do have a conflict of interest, that's OK, but you'll need to propose your changes at Talk:Euon Brown to avoid turning the article into something like a personal website for him.
Information we get from personal experience isn't allowed, because that's WP:Original research. This is especially important in biographies of living people: if we can't find WP:Reliable sources for anything important, like matches played and his personal life, then it can't go in. If you want any help formatting any references you put in, then just give me a shout. Storchy (talk) 10:34, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Nick Phoenix' Birthday

[edit]

Hi Storchy (talk) - Please, let me know, why composer Nick Phoenix' Birthday has been deleted from his Wikipedia page. The Birthday is clearly stated on the artist's official website (see source 2). Warning vandals

[edit]

Hi Storchy, When removing vandalism it's considered good practise to warn the vandal on their talk page. This helps to identify problem editors, and warn them of their misdeeds. WP:Twinkle is a tool you could install to help, otherwise the warnings are all listed here. Pabsoluterince (talk) 09:51, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi User:Pabsoluterince, thanks. But I usually do warn user accounts. Which vandalism did I not warn about? Storchy (talk) 09:59, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is the one I was refering to. Do you not warn IP vandals? Pabsoluterince (talk) 10:43, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not often. It's usually hit-and-run vandalism from the IP vandals that I see while doing my reference and template fixing. If they keep at it for more than a few hours, then yes I do. Twinkle looks bloody marvellous, by the way. :-) Will read the docs first and make sure I don't blow things up with it. Storchy (talk) 10:53, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I dabble in twinkle. I think you can control half of Wikipedia with three clicks on that thing. I only really was using it for restoring old versions of the pages, started using it for warnings and it's great. Yeah, I think there's a grey area when it comes to IP vandals. Personally I usually warn them because it's sometimes useful. I don't think I really needed to bring it up. Oh well. If you're looking to test out Twinkle warnings I'd suggest a visit to Recent Changes. Pabsoluterince (talk) 11:00, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll think a little more about IP vandals, thanks. It is a grey area, yeah.
Holy habaneros! Recent Changes is a firehose, 500 edits in less than 5 minutes. Nobody actually monitors that raw, right? Aha, there are filters... No, I'm backing away from that now, looks like Vandalism Hypno-Hell. Storchy (talk) 11:18, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. If you ever forget the Sisyphean nature of Wikipedia, revert recent changes vandals. It's like taking a bucket of water from a river. I don't really know how productive it is. Sure is fun though. Pabsoluterince (talk) 11:29, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wakefield High removal of issues: May 1

[edit]

Hello Storchy, I am contacting you to ask what I can do to remove the remaining issue warnings on the page Wakefield High School (Raleigh, North Carolina). The main troublesome part of the article, the athletics section, you recently deleted in almost its entirety to everything left that was cited, so I don't think there is a problem there anymore.

I really want to see this page be the best it can be and remove all of the remaining issues, but I don't even know where to begin. In the past when I thought I had removed the issues, you reinstated them (for obvious reasons, it was my 8th edit at the time lol). Either way, I don't know where to start, and since you have done the most recently to improving the quality of the article, I wanted to ask for help. Thanks! --Johnson524 (talk) 06:15, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moving AfDs

[edit]

Hi Storchy. Regarding this, I get why you did it, but you shouldn't actually move AfDs after they've been listed. WP:XFDCloser, which almost all AfD closers use, relies on the current name of the AfD being present in a daily log to relist correctly. It's not ideal when people move articles during an AfD, but the scripts can handle this I've fixed it all now so the AfD should remain at its current title. – Joe (talk) 10:09, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 👋

[edit]

I Aanand mehta (talk) 16:21, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I see that reference 15 is used twice. It doesn't mentioned Jane's revenge. Am I missing something? All I see is LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Lynchburg Police Department is investigating property damage and vandalism early Saturday morning at the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center on Old Forest Road. Police were called to the center at 10:40 a.m. Saturday . They report the building had been spray painted with graffiti and multiple windows had been broken. LPD says security camera footage shows four masked individuals committing the acts around 1:30 a.m. The center's director didn't want to be interviewed but told ABC13 that what happened is heartbreaking because they try to do all they can to help support the community. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Dubie at (434) 941-9937 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900. Enter an anonymous tip online at http://p3tips.com or use the P3 app on a mobile device. This is an ongoing investigation. On its website, the center is described as, "The Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center is dedicated to helping men and women faced with an unplanned pregnancy. All our services are free of charge so contact us today. Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center does not provide abortions or refer for abortions." Doug Weller talk 09:27, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. And as I tried to imply in one sentence, many of these are unverified, and attributed to the group by graffiti, or other unreliable means. Apparently there's a Twitter account that is trusted by some media, but if it's just a loose affiliation of like-minded protesters, then it's even more difficult to verify here. Maybe we should add a paragraph about this, what do you think? Storchy (talk) 12:08, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That source and the text it sourced should be removed as clearly violationg WP:V. Maybe go to RSN and ask if sources mentioning only graffiti etc can be used in the article? Get others involved that way? Doug Weller talk 12:34, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cleaning while someone's cleaning

[edit]

I don't see the point of running a script immediately after someone makes a housecleaning edit. There's a very good chance they're still going to be working on the page, and the likeliest outcome is they'll just force their edits over yours rather than deal with a truly obnoxious EC. @SamuelRiv: I waited 43 minutes after you edited, after you posted with an edit summary "fix remaining ref templates and all free urls". That's not immediate, nor is it "truly obnoxious". It's just collaborative editing. If you want an hour to work on a page, then please use the In use template. Thanks, Storchy (talk) 11:02, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reverse Discrimination explained as "One must bear in mind that this phenomena is a result of disloyal position of the state towards its own citizens"

[edit]

One must bear in mind that this phenomena is a result of disloyal position of the state towards its own citizens

Not my comment, I wish!, I did read it in a book/study online, but cannot find it again now, it is very accurate and short, which is always a good way to explain something that seems complicated and long.

Listen, with respect, if you can use your powers to find the original author please do. Don't delete something that explains it. Sean4780 (talk) 22:37, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I had a rummage online, but can't find attribution for it in any reliable sources, unfortunately. We also need to observe MOS:EDITORIAL and WP:No original research. Storchy (talk) 08:18, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
found it, and I understand the need of attribution reliable sources, thank you for pushing me to find it again.

One must bear in mind that this phenomena is a result of disloyal position of the state towards its own citizens, where it aims to pursue certain policies that diverge negatively from what is mandated at EU level with regard to nationals of other States which is apparent in the area of EU family migration rights Sean4780 (talk) 11:23, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, if you are happy with the cite, can you reinstate the explanation, and link the source. Sean4780 (talk) 13:46, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That citation is a paper written by a graduate student, Erik Kotlarik, but he's mostly quoting (in his cite 34 on page 8) from this paper by Hailbronner and Sanchez: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1927198 . He paraphrases freely, unfortunately. I don't think Kotlarik's poorly written quote is useful here, but we could quote from Hailbronner (a law professor) and Sanchez (a référendaire at the EU Court of Justice). Storchy (talk) 14:00, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What do you suggest, something like
"Reverse Discrimination emanates from a disloyal position of the state towards its own citizens." Sean4780 (talk) 15:29, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
you have gone very quiet, perhaps shy, you should not be Sean4780 (talk) 22:55, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I saw you added the Hailbronner and Sanchez citation, thanks. But you've also put that opinion back in the lead section, in WP:WIKIVOICE, sourced by that quote, and that's a problem. It's part of a wider problem with the whole article. Its title is Reverse Discrimination (EU Law), but it reads like a personal essay on how EU visa law has a reverse discrimination problem. It's full of point of view commentary like that, and WP:Synthesis from sources to advance a point of view. The whole article needs an overhaul to fix that, and a rename to clarify that it is only about one very narrow part of EU law. Storchy (talk) 06:46, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, but the only explanations and justifications given by the public servants and courts is that, while being absurd, it's not illegal. That is the only justification given, and I have included it. But I get what you're saying.
quote
Irish high court
"Ireland is entitled to treat its own citizens less favourably than other Union citizens"
German Court
"The German courts have ruled that reverse discrimination does not violate equal treatment as required under the German Constitution, nor fundamental rights or Article 7(2) of the Family Reunification Directive"
Getting back to the post, Reverse Discrimination (EU Law),
I agree the Lead section needs overhaul.
But what about the big section, where it analyses the status in each country, that is where the real meat is,
and it's incomplete, France is missing ! Can you help with it ?
many thanks. Sean4780 (talk) 10:52, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What is the article about? Is it primarily a list of EU countries whose visa laws have been ruled in court to be in breach of EU reverse discrimination law? Also, there is POV commentary throughout the article, not just in the lead section. Storchy (talk) 10:57, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The article is suppose to define what is Reverse Discrimination.
How it emanates.
What is the status in each EU state. Sean4780 (talk) 11:17, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's already an article on reverse discrimination, so that doesn't need to be defined in this new article. Can you please clarify what you mean by "how it emanates"? Storchy (talk) 11:19, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
reverse discrimination and the EU situation are two different things,
The explanation given by Erik Kotlarik explains it perfectly
One must bear in mind that this phenomena is a result of disloyal position of the state towards its own citizens
Don't read it as a POV, it's an explanation. Sean4780 (talk) 11:23, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Since clearly not everyone would agree with that statement (by Hailbronner and Sanchez), it's a point of view. Certainly the politicians who passed the legislation wouldn't think they were being intentionally disloyal to their fellow citizens, regardless of what some courts and legal scholars have said.
I definitely think the article needs to be moved back to draft, and rewritten. Storchy (talk) 11:29, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I talked with the politicians that passed the legislation, they know exactly what they are doing, and it's being done at request from the Home Office and Dept of Justice and equality, so they gain power.
That is the truth. Sean4780 (talk) 11:34, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I urge you to read WP:No original research and WP:Truth. Storchy (talk) 11:36, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm only making a post about a real subject, that people don't seem to grasp.
Read the books please.
This started with your valid point that I need to give a source.
Now the goal posts have moved, and you don't accept books and courts...
"regardless of what some courts and legal scholars have said." Sean4780 (talk) 11:42, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I accept books and courts. We can write "the court ruled..." and "the legal scholar said...", but that's not proof that all of the politicians involved in all the cases listed were intentionally disloyal to their fellow citizens, and it's WP:Synthesis to claim that it is. Storchy (talk) 11:45, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Now you are dreaming of what is the motivation in the mind of the politicians involved.
Stick with facts. As written in books and courts. Sean4780 (talk) 11:48, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"disloyal : not trustworthy; unreliable"
What is your definition of disloyal ?
We are talking about politicians here. Sean4780 (talk) 11:53, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ok, The disloyal comment and the book by the Professor of Law at Yale is removed.
I have also removed other references,

Please go back and check the page history, like you should have done before posting angrily here: I never said anything about "too early". That was one of the other editors whose edits you've been reverting the last few days.
I only warned you in an edit summary and at your user talk page about WP:Edit warring. You haven't even bothered with an edit summary until your most recent revert. If you don't like getting warning templates at your talk page, then next time discuss the disputed change at the article's talk page to get WP:Consensus for the changes you want. That's how it works on Wikipedia. Best of luck avoiding that block, Storchy (talk) 08:55, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick Köllner

[edit]

Hello, I've added some more citations to the Patrick Köllner article. Would you say that's enough for verification? Greetings! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wanquanbiantai (talk ‱ contribs) 06:04, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thanks for the extra citations. I think the article needs more WP:Secondary sources: at the moment the references are all links to his professional profiles, Google Books search for his work, and JSTOR search for his work. Has Köllner's work been written about by his peers? At the moment it's not clear from the citations whether he meets WP:PROF. Thanks, Storchy (talk) 09:01, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I'd think so. I'm going to look for secondary sources tomorrow. Wanquanbiantai (talk) 00:48, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So, I decided to look up secondary sources now instead of tomorrow and (luckily) found several. Where should I add them? To "Literature"? Wanquanbiantai (talk) 01:03, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, thanks. We can always move them around later if needed. Storchy (talk) 01:25, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I've added some peer reviews - in both English and German, is that alright? Please correct/change everything that's not ideal yet. (And thank you very much for the friendly feedback, by the way!) Wanquanbiantai (talk) 05:40, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding those. We can't use a search as a reference, but we can use searches to find good references. I've moved the Google Scholar and ResearchGate searches to templates in external links. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way of linking an author profile in JSTOR, the way we can on ResearchGate. Storchy (talk) 08:19, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Storchy,

You took what was a terrible new article and turned it into a decent stub article. Well done! The page creator was lucky you came by and took the time to improve what he had started. Liz Read! Talk! 21:06, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Thanks. I actually speedied it as a hoax ("comprised of elves and gnomes", "mastermind in political science", etc), until new account User:Ublaz01 came along, declined the speedy without comment and added a RS to show that he actually exists (their only edit that day). So, erm... credit where due I guess. I then found a second, rather funny RS panning his performance opening for Britney in Saskatoon, and removed the jokey stuff. Not much of an article left: he's a low-notability musician, former hair salon owner, and Hilfiger's nephew.
Page creator then returned a few hours later and tried to re-terrible it: [2]. User:Warfooting might be a compromised account, as its few previous edits seem OK. It looks like a coordinated attempt at a joke article between those two accounts. In any case, I don't see notability by WP:MUSICBIO or WP:GNG, so I'll take it to AFD now. Hope I'm not disappointing you. :-) Storchy (talk) 05:41, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced & Self Promotional

[edit]

You deleted two of my edits, Langhorne Slim - Strawberry Mansion and Jesse Malin - Sunset Kids, for being "unsourced and self-promotional." I'm new to making edits on Wikipedia and am curious as to why. The information cited in my edits is from interviews that we conducted with both artists, and what I quoted appears in our print fanzines (I included issue numbers); so, there's an actual, physical source where a reader can find these quotes. As for the self promotional aspect, we are trying to share some of our content with fans of these musical artists. If there's a way we can do this without raising your objections, can you let me know here? I appreciate your time. BandboxEditor (talk) 00:42, 29 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Draftification

[edit]

Hello, Storchy,

Please do not move long-standing articles from main space to Draft space. The Tower on the Rift has been around since 2006 so it can not be considered "recently created". My rule of thumb for recently created is articles created in the last 6 months but an RFC on the Village Pump earlier this year stated that articles that are older than 90 days shoud not be moved to Draft space.

So, please, if you see articles like this in the future, either work on improving the article or use an appropriate process of deletion that are available to you. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:46, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I saw the edit summaries from User:Pppery when they moved the three articles back, but you're right to assume I might have missed those. In case you're wondering, I only moved them because they were part of a series with the recently created article; I don't routinely draftify old unsourced articles, even BLPs, and this was a first for me. But a rule's a rule. Thanks, Storchy (talk) 06:15, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

James DeFina

[edit]

@Storchy hi there. I am working on the page for James DeFina. You say he was only mentioned in passing but he is called out as the director of many Post Malone music videos within the first paragraph on many notable sites. This MTV post says the following in the opening hook, https://www.mtv.com/news/qppu9b/post-malone-ty-dolla-sign-psycho-video, "Ever wonder how Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign would fare in the apocalypse? Look no further than the video for "Psycho." The James DeFina-directed visual sees Malone and Ty stranded in a desert wasteland where only the powers of flamethrowers and R&B music can set them free." To me this is direct and stating James is the notable director. I have sources from CNN, and Forbes as well. Nickgmitter (talk) 03:16, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Nickgmitter: Hello, that passage you cited above is exactly what is meant by "mentioned in passing". The sources aren't about DeFina, he's just mentioned in them. Can you find any articles that are actually about him, like a bio, a profile, something that is substantially about him and his work?
On an important related matter, what is your connection with Mr. DeFina? You have added unsourced biographical detail about him that I can't find online, and there are other details about the article suggesting a conflict of interest. As I've just posted at your talk page, it's important that you declare any connection you have with him. Thanks, Storchy (talk) 07:01, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've just added a button to the top of Draft:Advitya (film), and tidied the references a bit. As it hasn't been released yet, the article will probably need some more reliable sources to show how it's notable: you can read more about this at Wikipedia:Notability (films).

Hurray, an actual article has materialised this time. 🙃 Storchy (talk) 13:51, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Storchy, please look at the editor who has created an article before deciding to move articles to Draft space. Look at their User and User talk pages. This editor has been active since 2007 and has tens of thousands of edits, they have much more experience on Wikipedia than you have. I assume they were in the beginning stage of writing an article and it is kind of an insult to move an artice of a veteran editor to Draft space, one who has previously created other articles. Look at 30th Troop Carrier Squadron, it's a complete article, not the work of a newbie. Some editors don't use Draft or User space and just start and work on articles in main space. Please take a few minutes to assess who the page creator is and possibly reach out to them on their talk page before using the Draftification tools. Often a personal note is much more effective than templates. Liz Read! Talk! 01:44, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There was no intention to insult, and I did check their edit history before draftifying it by script. But it's not really OK for any editor, regardless of experience level, to leave an article in this state in main space for eleven hours. If you're saying just move it to draft, and leave a note, rather than by script (with template), then yeah fair enough. Storchy (talk) 02:11, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Article (Andrej Drapal biography) was rejected because there are no reliable sources cited. This is absurd. In all three books that I have published with different publishers, there is a biography of me cited that is not much different from the one I have posted on Wikipedia. So: Three books cited exist. Institutions I have been working in exist - and my position there can be verified. The biographies published in different places (not by myself) can be verified and compared to what I have posted on Wikipedia. If that is not enough verification options, then nothing is enough. So please consider the rejection once again, especially because I have been very cautious to present only objectively verifiable facts with no bias.

Drapi (talk) 13:21, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and Wikipedia:Autobiography. Thank you. Storchy (talk) 13:27, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks,
I have red both, Wikipedia instructions about Biographies of living persons and Autobiography. I agree that autobiography represents a conflict of interest - so please help me finding a third person that can double check facts that I have listed.
Aparto from a conflict of interest, I have followed all other rules, at least as I can understand them. I'm no0t politically involved, but at the same ti9me reasonably well known Slovenian public personality with quite a long history. I have avoided all possible controversial that might be understood as subjective or biased. All institutions I have been working for are public, respectful and verifiable. My birthdate is publicised and verifiable. All three books listed are published and available. Standard Branding model is publicised in the book Brandlife. I Feel Slovenia brand was contracted with Pristop and me as a leader of the team that developed that brand. II Feel Slovenia is known and praised worldwide and frequently cited in scientific papers. I have avoided all other possible achievements, that could be understood as plain self-promotion. If these is something else that challenges the rules of Wikipedia, I7m willing to remove it or I give a permission to an editor to remove it.
Regards, ad Drapi (talk) 12:36, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The promotional tone can be fixed. The main reason that the article isn't ready for publication is the lack of independent, secondary sources for all the things you've written about your career. This is explained in more detail at Help:Referencing for beginners, and at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons, particularly in this section and this section.
To pick an example at random from the article, secondary sources are needed to verify these sentences:
  • "From 1991 to 2011, he was a partner of the first and still largest public relations and marketing agency, Pristop."
  • "He founded the first professional lobby association in Slovenia (1996)"
Ideally the references should be cited as footnotes, but that can be sorted out later. For now you can just add them to the bottom of the article. Storchy (talk) 15:32, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

NPP

[edit]

Hi there, I've seen your name quite a bit of late. You seem to have a grasp of the notability/refs/verify requirements. Have you ever given any thought to WP:NPP? Onel5969 TT me 15:47, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya, yeah been doing lots of ref/template fixes, and categorization. Lately I've also been trying to find gems in the new drafts, after I saw how the backlog for draft review was up to four months. It's not easy, which might explain the backlog. It's like catching salmon with a net, in a river of muck. Made lots of fixes to drafts so far, and I think I've moved about a dozen from draft to main space. I'd hoped for a better result than that, to be honest. It seems like far more time needs spending on fixing vandalism and advertising, than actually building an encyclopedia.
Just took a look at NPP/School, and spotted your name on the trainers list. Got room for one more student? At the least, maybe it'll make me better at draft review. Storchy (talk) 06:12, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can take on someone else, sure. It's a lengthy process, and more of a marathon than a sprint. How quickly it goes depends on you. There are 10 sections, and some of them are split into sub-sections. If you're interested, and I hope you are, ping me back and we can start.Onel5969 TT me 16:10, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh yeah, I used review drafts coming up for G13 deletions before joining AfC. It's like mining for diamonds but there are some gems out there. If I had my way there would be a CSD criteria to get rid of the "muck" earlier so the remaining is more enticing/easier to slug through. S0091 (talk) 18:40, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey, Onel5969, another subject that may help Storchy is to demonstrate when/when not to add a PE or COI tag on an article or its TP, especially when the PE's material has been removed from the article or the material was approved by other uninvolved editors, or the article is a complete makeover by uninvolved editors. I just removed this tag. Good luck in NPPSCHOOL, Storchy! Atsme 💬 📧 23:08, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Atsme. OK @Onel5969: I clearly need the training, especially since I've also been occasionally tagging new articles with maintenance templates, and sometimes nominating articles in Category:Uncategorized pages for deletion (including speedy), while doing categorization. Thank you for generously agreeing to spend the time required.
Now that I've read the essential documentation and watched the curation tool video at NPP/School, let's proceed at your convenience. I'll pause all deletion nominations, till I've completed the training. Plenty of work to be done elsewhere in the meantime. Maybe I could even create an article that isn't a category. :-) Thanks, Storchy (talk) 00:34, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you didn't realise? Or your bot was incorrectly set up? It is not required, expected or appreciated when editors do minor tidyups on articles being created in userspace, unless the person creating that article is breaking WP rules or international law. Jonathan Coleman

[edit]

Hi Storchy, Id like to respectfully query you removing my edits to the Jonathan Coleman (physcist) page. I am Jonathan Coleman and I wanted to extend the page and update it with more detail. What do I need to do to get it back? (Redacted) Jonathan (Nesbitt1973) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nesbit1973 (talk ‱ contribs)

Hello Professor Coleman. Thank you for your contributions, especially the very interesting article on liquid phase exfoliation, which is coming along nicely.
But I strongly suggest that you read Wikipedia:Autobiography, which explains why on Wikipedia we shouldn't write about ourselves and our work. Your edits at that article were unsourced, and while I've no doubt that they were correct, as explained in Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons it's essential that all additions to articles on living persons be neutral and verifiable, with no original research.
I'd be happy to help you improve the Jonathan Coleman article, especially with the referencing. May I suggest that, as outlined at WP:AUTO#IFEXIST, you post edit requests at Talk:Jonathan Coleman (physicist)? Many thanks, Storchy (talk) 12:06, 30 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your CSD for Shuleeg Dasht Balochistan, which I previously tagged. Though, I'm unsure if CSD would work. Dunno if any criteria are applicable. Also see User talk:Dashtshuligkech#Note on New Articles for the note I left- if it's possible you could elaborate and expand upon it. Many thanks again for your reviewing! VickKiang (talk) 10:35, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Good question. I would like to try to engage with that editor, whose English is clearly very limited, and try to explain to them about why articles need references. They might have no idea why their articles keep getting sent to draft.
I couldn't find anything in English-language RS online about the various names given for this village, so it might not notable by WP:GEOLAND. Any ideas on how we could get them to find reliable sources in Urdu or Balochi? Or is this a matter of WP:CIR, and we need to ask at WP:ANI? Good grief, listen to me spouting letters like a broken modem. Storchy (talk) 10:39, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I don't think I conducted a detailed WP:BEFORE search in other languages, but my one in English didn't find much that could show WP:GEOLAND being met. IMO as they started editing four days ago, WP:ANI is probably a bit too fast to me right now. I think that the user is generally good-faith but is unconstructive, most of their contribs have been reverted, so WP:CIR might apply. Though, after a friendly remainder if they continue perhaps we should go with a sterner level 2/level 3 warning on unsourced content or unhelpful pages, if that still doesn't work then we might report to this somewhere. In the meantime, these should be drafted and AfDed, the CSD might work but might also more likely not, depending on the deleting admin. Many thanks! VickKiang (talk) 10:44, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh agreed, much better to avoid ANI. I see you saw my note at their talk page about which language to use. Here's hoping that works. Someone told me in a WP discussion somewhere that there's a WP phone app that doesn't show user talk page alerts. Zheeezh. But here's hoping. Storchy (talk) 11:07, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
One of their articles was in Urdu (says Google Translate), so I posted at Wikiproject Pakistan, asking for an Urdu speaker to help explain about references. Fingers crossed that happens before an admin gets fed up with what looks a lot like sullen revenge edits at the moment. Storchy (talk) 15:05, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, that's a good question. I had a look at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard, and found these two discussions:
It seems that legacy.com is more of a Wikipedia:Primary source. Were you just looking to reference that single sentence about Kacik that's currently in the draft? I bet we could find a better source than a family's obituary. Here's one: [5] Storchy (talk) 13:08, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks I used "design observer previously" so I wanted to have multiple sources, and the obituary was a reprint from the new york times.
Yep, I was looking for the single sentence about Kacik.
Also, I am personally trying to figure out notability - pre-internet age this was very notable - perhaps I can find something in print.
PS it's great having help and a sounding board! Flibbertigibbets (talk) 19:57, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. To delete the old draft, we would need to propose deletion at WP:MFD.
You can edit the old draft, and submit it for review again, if you really have something new to add. But if it's just the same tweaks that were made in the last four submissions, then it will just get rejected again. Storchy (talk) 21:43, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of family info from Arshad Sharif's page

[edit]

Since Arshad sharif was a private man and would not want information regarding his family on the page, it is only fair that his choices be respected. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arshad_Sharif Stony123 (talk) 23:32, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'll reply at the article talk page, where you've also posted about this. Storchy (talk) 23:38, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 10:00:11, 22 November 2022 for assistance on AfC submission by Ajatontiriajabale

[edit]

Hi! Storchy,

I got your review. The subject in question is actually very popular and notable. Unfortunately, He's more active in Northern Nigeria where the coverage is fewer. His company has actually been a pioneer in the Nigerian market and has been involved in various projects. No doubt, he is really notable. I agree the coverage is limited. What would you advise?

Ajatontiriajabale (talk) 10:00, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes finding reliable sources on notable African subjects from areas with lower coverage online is a longtime problem on Wikipedia. You might consider looking for offline sources, such as scans of reliable printed newspaper articles. You could also ask for assistance at the talk page of WP:WikiProject Nigeria: perhaps there are editors from Northern Nigeria who can help. The coverage doesn't have to be in English, either. Any language is fine, so long as it's from a reliable source. Storchy (talk) 10:07, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Storchy, I will look for more sources around...and as you've advised, I will look out for more offline sources...I am sure I should be able to find a couple. Thank you so much for your help. Ajatontiriajabale (talk) 10:15, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help review new article

[edit]

Hello, I saw you moved the article I created Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Thanks for doing that, I needed permission to do so, please also help me review the article, you did well Madeforall1 (talk) 11:29, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I've been looking through those edits and I think all of them are reverted now? I have asked another admin about what to do with the editor as I wasn't sure where to report? I wasn't sure if they went to AIV or the BLP noticeboard? Knitsey (talk) 17:01, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

AIV isn't the right place for this, because unsourced additions to a BLP aren't considered vandalism, unless they're blatantly defamatory, like "Mr. So and So is a stinking nazi", that sort of thing.
But if they continue to add unsourced info to BLPs, and continue refusing to respond to requests and warning at their talk page, you could report them at WP:ANI. Storchy (talk) 17:05, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for tge advice. It's appreciated. Knitsey (talk) 17:08, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CSD G5s

[edit]

Hello, Storchy,

I just untagged some pages you had tagged for speedy deletion, CSD G5, and I wanted to explain why. This criteria is misunderstood a lot. G5 is not a criteria for being a blocked account or for having multiple accounts/sockpuppetry. It is actually intended for block evasion, that is, for using sockpuppets AFTER an account has been blocked or during a block.

So, for example, Cambridge Guys was blocked for 3 days on November 17th. Any page creations that were made by sockpuppets prior to that November 17th block date are not eligible for CSD G5 because the sockmaster was not blocked during that time, hence, no block evasion. And the block was only for 3 days, not indefinitely. So, the only page creations that might be eligible for CSD G5 speedy deletion were if Cambridge Guys created a sock puppet from Nov. 17-20, while they were blocked, and then created some draft articles.

This can be a tricky CSD criteria to assess, you have to check when the original account was blocked, how long the bock was for, what date the page you are examining was created, was it created during a time the original account was blocked and if there are any substantial article contributions by other editors. If you go into my talk page archives, you can find at least a dozen discussions about CSD G5, even one where we pinged a checkuser to confirm our understanding of the criteria. But thanks for all of your contributions to the project, I run into work you've done or articles you've reviewed almost every day. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 21:12, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. OK, thanks for the reverts then. I'll check the timeline of creation versus block carefully next time.
And it's a relief to hear that reverts are only needed on a minority of my contributions. :-) Storchy (talk) 21:40, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your feedback on my submission of the Agora Club International article. Our goal was to give some general info to explain what Agora Club International stands for, especially since it is referred to (with red hyperlinks) from the wikipedia page "Round Table family of Clubs". Your feedback that more in-depth references are needed is a bit difficult to address, maybe you can help us by suggesting alternatives ways to meet your concerns?

With kind regards,

Hello, I've replied at your talk page. Storchy (talk) 12:32, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

[edit]

Recently I was thinking something like "I'm so happy that this experienced editor has chimed in and tried to apply the correct guidelines and processes here". Again today, I notice the same person fixed some things again, so I checked your page. I see you're actually here less than a year, a bit like myself (I joined years ago, but editing in earnest for less than a year).

So this is a note to say that I appreciate how you are contributing to the encyclopaedia. I mostly agree with what you say, disagree with some of the more minor detail, but the important thing is that you've separated surmountable problems from insurmountable ones, which is what we need at WP:AFD. The topic we are discussing is difficult to deal with in a neutral manner for obvious reasons, but I think you've succeeded where I fear others are making emotion based arguments and then trying to find logical/guideline/police justifications to support them, rather than trying to be genuinely neutral.

Thanks for the way you're editing, I appreciate it. CT55555(talk) 16:14, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You're very welcome. Thanks for keeping a cool head at the talk page, when there have been implicit and explicit allegations made about the motives for creating the article. It's probably a difficult topic for anyone to stay neutral about though, and by and large the discussion's been mostly civil.
By the way, did you notice this yet? There should have been a notification at your user talk page about that discussion, as article creator. Storchy (talk) 16:28, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Without much thought, I created absolutely the most emotion-provoking article out of the 300+ I've started so far. I guess as I wrote it, I did start to realize it might get extra scrutiny and I think that's a good thing and probably best to get it right away and from a very wide range of people. I don't care about the implied allegations about my motives because anyone who looked into things will see that I've actually started and edited a bunch of articles about Ukraine (including Olha Franko,Petro Franko, Tetiana Barantsova, so anyone who cares to forensically examine my history will inevitably conclude that any bias I have is in favour of Ukraine.
My actual motivations are the same as almost every article I write. I write about something, I learn something new in that process, I figure out if it's notable. So when I wrote about Duncan Kinney I ended up learning about Roman Shukhevych statue (Edmonton) and after I wrote that one, I realised there was reliable sources dealing with the collective group of such monuments.
Nobody notified me about the WP:ANI thread, which was slightly annoying, but in the context of the sensible interventions by multiple editors who are unconnected, that's probably for the best. So I read it last night and decided I had nothing to add to what was said already. Today I realise the WP:ANI thread is a good thing, it gets more experienced eyes on the article. I have faith in the WP:AFD process, I used to hang out at AFD a lot and I know the people who close them really can separate relevant and not relevant arguments, and WP:GNG plus WP:NLIST arguments will likely outrank others.
The whole conversation is a bit disappointing because I think those who disagree with me are driven by a very understandable sense of kindness and solidarity to Ukrainians. It would have been better if this article was created before Russia seized on this real issue as a talking/propaganda point. But I went ahead anyway, I don't think ignoring difficult issues is encyclopedic or good for society.
Let's hope cool heads prevail, and if what I've learned about Wikipedia so far remains true, I think they will. Peace. CT55555(talk) 16:51, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Retrieve content of deleted page: Draft:Yes_No_Oracles

[edit]

Hello Storchy,

My article "Draft:Yes_No_Oracles" was deleted due to a quote that triggered a copy right violation. I apologize for the error, I was under the impression, based on Wikipedia's copy right policies: Wikipedia:Quotations allowed quotations if properly sighted, which i thought I did, but must not be understanding something.

So I would like to retrieve the content of article and hopefully re-post it without the quote altogether.

Hello, Storchy. Please check your email; you've got mail! The subject is retrieve content of deleted page: Draft:Yes_No_Oracles.
It may take a few minutes from the time the email is sent for it to show up in your inbox. You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{You've got mail}} or {{ygm}} template.

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

[edit]

Hello Storchy,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

A barnstar for you!

The Guidance Barnstar
For the very kind and helpful guidance you provided me as a new editor on the project exactly one year ago today. Thank you! Johnson524 (Talk!) 02:20, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Storchy, I hope you're doing well 😁 The chances are you don't remember me, but you gave me very helpful guidance and information regarding removing the alert boxes at the top of the page Wakefield High School (Raleigh, North Carolina) when I first started editing. When I made an ignorant edit, you reverted them and told me why you did, which helped educate me in the policies of Wikipedia I was mostly unaware of at the time. I felt so accomplished when those errors were resolved, because it was the first time I had done anything on that scale really on the project, and it motivated me to keep going. I am happy to say now I have made over 2,000+ edits, 24 articles, and promoted one of my articles to GA status! You really started me out on my journey, and I felt a Barnstar was the least I could do. Thank you again! Johnson524 (Talk!) 02:20, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
