OUR MISSION
The mission of OIT Security is to assure the security of the University's Information resources and provide a safe computing environment for the Norfolk State University community. We achieve this mission with three pillars of security: the utilization of governance through policies and procedures, a robust security awareness program, and robust and scalable security architecture, solutions, and operations. This allows us to support the university's teaching, learning, and public service missions and partner with faculty, staff, and students.
As part of the University's Office of Information Technology, the Security team proactively:
- Strategizes to ensure secure access protocols and network architecture
- Mitigates risk through outreach, awareness, assessment, policy, and best practices
- Monitors networks and systems to protect against and detect malicious activity and ensure regulatory compliance
- Manages business continuity for critical information systems
- Responds to security events to contain incidents and improve protocols
