You there with a mustache! I am the king of cold, Chief Chilly. I lock up anyone who challenges the superiority of my 'stache.”
Chief Chilly, Super Mario 64 DS

Chief Chilly is a boss resembling a larger version of the Chill Bully. He is much larger than an average Bully and has a spiked mustache and a crown of ice crystals.

History[edit]

Chief Chilly in Super Mario 64 DS

In Super Mario 64 DS, his first appearance, Chief Chilly is located at the end of the stage Chief Chilly Challenge, which can be accessed by Luigi only, and holds the Wario Key. Once Chief Chilly's arena is entered, he states that he locked Wario up because he was rude and mocking his mustache. Chief Chilly is battled similarly to a Big Bully, since the player character has to use attacks (including Luigi's Backward Somersault) to knock Chief Chilly into the freezing water. Occasionally, Chief Chilly releases coins when he is hit. Every time the player manages to knock him off the edge, Chief Chilly makes the stage smaller and then hops to the middle of the stage. If the player is standing in the middle of the stage, they take damage. On the third attempt of pushing Chief Chilly off the ledge, he manages to stay on the ledge while off-balance. Hitting him once more inflicts the final blow, but failure to do this soon enough results in Chief Chilly regaining his balance. After falling into the water a third time, Chief Chilly drops the Wario Key.

Although Yoshi cannot face Chief Chilly through normal means, if the player uses a glitch to bypass the mirror and get into Chief Chilly Challenge, Yoshi can face and defeat Chief Chilly (although Yoshi cannot punch, dive forward, or perform most kicks, ground-pounding and crouching, slide-kicking, and sweep-kicking still work against him). Chief Chilly also has special quotes for when facing Yoshi and when being defeated by him.

Mario Kart DS[edit]

In Mario Kart DS, Luigi must battle Chief Chilly on Level 6 of the Missions mode. Like in the battle with the Big Bully, Luigi must push Chief Chilly off his platform into the water. However, Chief Chilly must be pushed off three times instead of once and becomes stronger and trickier with every successful attack on Luigi's part. However, after he falls into the water for the second time, he gains the ability to jump over Luigi's boost attacks. To defeat him, Luigi has to approach Chief Chilly, then attack him either from the side, where the boss is unable to see him, or while the boss is charging at him, which knocks both of them backward. Luigi can attack him either from afar or in close proximity to him.
