Institutional Effectiveness
Welcome
Institutional Effectiveness oversees institution-wide accreditations, assessment, and provides support in developing processes and/or structures in support of the institution's strategic planning process. Our staff have expertise in a variety of areas from Higher Education trends and best practices to survey development and implementation, data collection and analysis, curriculum design and assessment as well as other institutional performance-related skills and knowledge.
The University has been continuously accredited since 1916. The re-affirmation of accreditation review process evaluates our educational programs and services for quality and assesses our efforts in continuous quality improvement. This process is critical to ensure that BGSU students are eligible to receive federal financial aid and guarantees to our stakeholders that BGSU offers a high-quality education. All members of the BGSU community are encouraged to review this site for more information about HLC and the re-affirmation of accreditation process. I welcome any questions at jlommel@bgsu.edu or at institutionaleff@bgsu.edu.
Thank you for your continued efforts to move our great institution forward.
Regards,
John Lommel, Ed.D.
Mission of Institutional Effectiveness
Institutional Effectiveness, reporting to the Provost, strives to foster a culture of data‐driven continuous improvement at Bowling Green State University by providing leadership, guidance, and support for planning, assessment, analysis, and reporting processes aligned to the mission of the university.
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) and the Office of Academic Assessment (OAA) comprise Institutional Effectiveness at BGSU. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) serves as the go‐to destination for institutional effectiveness support services for all units of the university and external agencies, including compliance and accreditation (HLC, state authorization, etc.), programmatic and institutional quality assurance (specialized program accreditation, program review, quality initiative, highly qualified faculty/staff, etc.), strategic planning and budgeting, and assessment needs (student learning and success assessment, institutional outcomes assessment, etc.). The Office of Academic Assessment (OAA) focuses on student learning outcomes, assessment and a variety of surveys or projects.
