Major Thomas van Straubenzee was born on 17 April 1782 at Wakefield, Yorkshire, England.1 He was the son of Charles Spencer van Straubenzee and Anne Theophilia Davison.1 He married Maria Bowen, daughter of Major Henry Bowen and Henrietta Garstin, on 17 April 1808.1 He died on 8 February 1843 at age 60.1

Sophia Elizabeth Giffard was the daughter of Thomas Giffard.2 She married John Wrottesley, 2nd Baron Wrottesley, son of John Wrottesley, 1st Baron Wrottesley and Lady Caroline Bennet, on 28 July 1821.1 She died on 13 January 1880.1
From 28 July 1821, her married name became Wrottesley. After her marriage, Sophia Elizabeth Giffard was styled as Baroness Wrottesley on 14 March 1841.
