     William O'Neill, 1st Baron O'Neill of Shane's Castle was born on 4 March 1813.1 He was the son of Reverend Edward Chichester and Catherine Young.2 He married, firstly, Henrietta Torrens, daughter of Robert Torrens, on 3 January 1839.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Grace Torrens, daughter of Venerable John Torrens, on 8 April 1858.1 He died on 18 April 1883 at age 70.1
     He was given the name of William Chichester at birth.1 He was educated at Foyle College, Duncreggan, County Londonderry, IrelandG.1 He was educated at Shrewsbury School, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He was ordained in 1837.1 He held the office of Prebendary of Christ Church, Dublin between 1848 and 1859.1 In 1855 his name was legally changed to William O'Neill by Royal Licence, under the will of Earl O'Neill.1 He was created 1st Baron O'Neill of Shane's Castle, co.      Henrietta Torrens was the daughter of Robert Torrens.1 She married William O'Neill, 1st Baron O'Neill of Shane's Castle, son of Reverend Edward Chichester and Catherine Young, on 3 January 1839.1 She died on 17 January 1857.1
     From 3 January 1839, her married name became Chichester. From 1855, her married name became O'Neill.1
