Tech News: 2024-16
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Problems
- Between 2 April and 8 April, on wikis using Flagged Revisions, the "Reverted" tag was not applied to undone edits. In addition, page moves, protections and imports were not autoreviewed. This problem is now fixed. [1][2]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 April. It will be on all wikis from 18 April (calendar). [3][4]
- Default category sort keys will now affect categories added by templates placed in footnotes. Previously footnotes used the page title as the default sort key even if a different default sort key was specified (category-specific sort keys already worked). [5]
- A new variable
page_last_edit_age
will be added to abuse filters. It tells how many seconds ago the last edit to a page was made. [6]
Future changes
- Volunteer developers are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. Learn more.
- Four database fields will be removed from database replicas (including Quarry). This affects only the
abuse_filter
andabuse_filter_history
tables. Some queries might need to be updated. [7]

Your concern on Rollback
Editor is not allowed to post on my talk page, per the big bold letters on the edit notice

I didn't start a dispute or discussion on that request. You are not supposed to blame another editor with wrong information. You accused me of calling another admin an ass on enwiki, which is really inaccurate and inappropriate. I have always requested you to maintain good faith with another editor. And I was an editor here before getting blocked, and I am well aware of the WP:ONESTRIKE policy. DIVINE 04:29, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

QD requests on Irtapil pages
Please stop making these requests because I'm going to decline them all. If you had some kind of agreement with Fr33kman, then just ask them to take care of them. -- Auntof6 (talk) 08:31, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Auntof6 This was discussed on their page so no response is needed here. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 08:48, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

Re: modules
I don't want to spam Vermont with notifications too much, so I'm responding here. If the QD request is placed on a module/template documentation page, it goes onto the module/template page, where it will then be added into CAT:QD. So long as your reason for deleting the module (T2 for example) shows the module should be being deleted, admins should be going to the main module page and deleting it from there. --Ferien (talk) 14:01, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- That would be my hope but I saw Ao6 using AWB to handle deletions earlier (per this in my email Editor's summary: decline qd request: no valid qd reason given using
- [[Project:AWB|AWB]]'').
- So that’s why I’m afraid to do that. I’d rather post something major like that to AN or even yours, Vermont or Eptalons TPs instead. All others have sworn off not ever wanting to touch anything in Templates: or Modules: spaces. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:06, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see Auntof6 using AWB to handle those deletion requests as an issue. Userpages are rarely deleted as deleting them rather than leaving them be is actually more effort. It is not like we save on storage space or anything, and another editor could potentially work on it. Unrelated to this topic: are you able to hop on IRC? I have a question that I would rather ask off-wiki. --Ferien (talk) 14:08, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I’m on discord atm. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:09, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

- @Ferien Yeah I understand that the issue is mostly with the other issues within that space with cats and templates, but like Auntof6 said, I’ll take them all to RfD. Thanks, and be well! - PDLTalk to me!Please don't eat da 🐑! 14:10, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
