Template changes
Hi. Regarding this. Please discuss changes you want to make to templates on WP:ST first. We use Simple English here and we word templates to be understandable by all our readers. I have undone the change. Thanks fr33kman t - c 17:17, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm new to Simple English Wikipedia, and am getting oriented. I have been contributing to the English Wikipedia for a few years, but I'd like to help get this project further advanced. Sorry if my edit was out-of-place and thanks for the advice on where to discuss the proposed change. EhJJ (talk) 18:59, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- The edit was a good one, the only issue was not discussing a change to a very active anti-vandalism warning template that a lot of people use. An established editor here might have been okay to just do that, but even then, most would probably discuss a change first. Welcome to seWP, hope you stick around. We are a close-knit community here and everyone knows everyone else by 'sight'. It's, mostly, a very friendly place where the individual editor can make a massive difference to the project. I think it's this that attracts people here from enWP. Places to 'hang around' are WP:AFD, WP:ST, WP:ANI, WP:VIP, WP:DYK, WP:RFA, and WP:SN could really use some help. For a tutorial on how to import articles from enWP to seWP you could read User:Fr33kman/copyenwp. See you around! :) fr33kman t - c 19:11, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Several such editors have indeed made a massive difference here; User:Eptalon, User:Creol (now retired), and several others :). If you need any help, please don't be afraid to ask me or any other active editor here on their talk pages (or mine: here). Cheers, and hope to see you around much more here. Razorflame 19:14, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for AGF. These kinds of templates are locked on enWP, which is usually what I use to determine whether I should edit it or not before discussing :P As I read through the policies, etc. on seWP, I'll try avoid making any changes aside from obvious grammatical errors, etc, until I'm used to how everything works here. I'm definitely looking forward to contributing to a project where there's a large need for article-space development. I'll let you guys know if I get turned around and need some help. Thanks again! Doctor
Hi, if you want to you could help me change User:Fr33kman/Doctor. I'm a doctor and am trying to write a new article that is comprehensive and well sourced. I'd like to run it through the WP:PGA process. fr33kman t - c 19:13, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Nice. I'd absolutely be glad to help. I'm a med student currently and have a Pharmacology exam tomorrow (I'm here on my "study breaks"). I'll have a read-through over the next week and make changes where I think they may be needed, trying my best to use simple language. EhJJ (talk) 19:26, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Cool. See you go to St. Georges. That must be nice to study at. Make a change from rainy old England. :) fr33kman t - c 19:35, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- Pharm exam went reasonably well. The weather here is wonderful. I'm originally from Vancouver, Canada, which I hear has about the same kind of weather as London. I made a few edits to your article, but I see it is still in progress. I'll keep it on my watch list. Good luck on that, it will be a huge improvement to what we have now. EhJJ (talk) 04:43, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Glad to hear the exam went well. I only remember snippets of pharmacology now-a-days :) It's unbelievable how much of med school you don't end up using on a day-to-day basis. Was going to ask you what you thought of the new Canadian paramedic levels? I find it interesting that EMRs are called paramedics these days. To me a paramedic is a person who can do thrombolysis and rapid sequence induction, not just give o2 and cpr. fr33kman talk 14:37, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Mark it for quick deletion then. Be bold! Cheers, Razorflame 02:15, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, you're quick! Despite hundreds of edits on enWP (including new page patrolling), I'm just a little timid on this new project. Still getting used to the slight differences, I suppose. EhJJ (talk) 02:18, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Yep...after thousands of edits both here and on the English Wikipedia, I've learned when a page is deletable and when it isn't XD. Razorflame 02:20, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Don't be timid, if a tag is placed and it's not appropriate, it'll just be removed by the admin doing it and replaced with an AFD; no one is going to bite you here. :) fr33kman talk 14:44, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Blood Pressure
You did a good job sorting out the Blood pressure page, do you want to have a look at Hypertension which needs help? I started trying to simplify it the other day (which is why I then went to blood pressure while fixing a link). Keep up the quality editing, --Peterdownunder (talk) 22:48, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks. Part of the reason I came to seWP is because en:Hypertension is terribly difficult to read. I'll take a look at our version of that article when I have some time (I have an exam tomorrow). Thanks again (Can you tell I'm Canadian?) EhJJTALK 23:16, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Welcome
I just wanted to pop in and say thanks for the welcome note. I'll get started looking for places to start on Simple English WP tomorrow. Thanks again for the greeting! Wilhelm meis (talk) 03:17, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, well I got some time to play around with it today and I think I have my first article just about ready to go. See it at my sandbox and let me know what you think. Wilhelm meis (talk) 13:47, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's a good start, but I think some of the language is still more difficult than what we aim for. It takes a while to learn how to write in "simple english". As it is, feel free to move your article to the article space whenever, but it will probably need a {{complex}} tag until it's simplified more. Nice work thus far. EhJJTALK 15:51, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Ya, I found out pretty quick that there was 'zero' ground-work done toward supporting portals here. If the consensus is no portals, maybe we should remove it as a goal of the History Project. I also notice there is weak support of projects here, but I think if we got the more experienced editors together to make some coordinated efforts in this way, it could be more effective than a bunch of people roving around making random edits here and there. Just a thought, but it seems to work pretty well on en.WP. I was thinking if we had subst:templates to support one basic portal setup, though, and then each project could plug their own titles and 'selected' articles into it for their own portal, that could be a big step forward. Wilhelm meis (talk) 12:08, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
Unspecific disease-related articles
Hello EhJJ,
Fr33kman mentioned that you are also involved in/training to be in a medical profession. I have posted a note on Simple talk regarding the fact that some (probably most) of our disease-related articles are too unspecific to be helpful. I would therefore be glad if you could have a look at the articles mentioned (or at other disease-related ones you come across). Thanks. --Eptalon (talk) 13:07, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'm a medical student, so the amount of free time I have is directly proportional to how long it is until my next exam ;) We're reviewing psych two weeks from now, so I'll take a crack at these either before then (if I'm studying ahead) or afterwards (if I have time). Twinkle (2)
Hey dude,
Hows it going? Sorry i've been a bit slack on this, RL is crazy!
Any module in particular you want me to work on, and shall I put the completed ones into the MediaWiki: namespace? Or perhaps I could test out the admin modules?
Regards,
Goblin 13:42, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- No worries. They're not quite done yet, but I'm almost finished with the twinklewarn.js and twinkespeedy.js modules. I've updated the admin portions to twinklewarn.js (that put block messages on the talk page), so that's ready to get tested (whenever you need to block someone...). As for twinklespeedy.js, there's code there that gives admins the option to tag or to simply delete. That may need to be developed before it is tested (or just try if it works, and if it does, we can just leave the code alone). I want to make a qd-notice template that is specifically designed to work with Twinkle and will provide a more customized message than the current uw-create1 message, but that shouldn't be too hard. Overall, however, I think it's best to leave this in my userspace so that I can make bug fixes and simplify the interface a bit more. Can you access my userspace as an admin? Do you remember who else is working on this... I think it was Chenzw, but it may have been Majorly or another user. EhJJTALK 14:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Twinkle Issue
Hey EhJJ,
I've found a pretty major bug with Twinkle that probably should go to the top of the list to be fixed. When used as a "gadget" through Special:Preferences it stops all other JavaScript from working across the site. I believe this happens because the software calls User Prefs, User JS and then the Site Wide JS. I've had a look at the code and can't see the source of the problem - perhaps you know what it is?
Regards,
Goblin 11:28, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting, I'll give it a try to see what's going on. EhJJTALK 13:44, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Right-o. This is on Monobook btw, may or may not be the same on Modern. Regards, Goblin 13:46, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- I looked at User:Bluegoblin7/monobook.js and it's kind of a mess. You have Twinkle installed twice, both from AzaToth and Maxim. If you also have it installed using Gadgets, that could definitely be an issue. Do you know who has been having problems (i.e. with which other JavaScripts? I'm trying to recreate the problem but I don't use much else. EhJJTALK 13:50, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, ignore my monobook ;). That was deleted when I was having the Twinkle issue i've only just restored it so I at least have something that works for warning users ;). It's installed twice because not all of the Azatoth one works and not all the Maxim one works ;). Not heard of anyone else, though the JS issues at ST could be related. Regards, Goblin 13:53, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
- This is strange. For a while it wasn't working and now it's working again. I'll see if I can catch you on IRC. EhJJTALK 14:13, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Hang on, what?
Did SMG cause disruption? After socking on en for a while, he tried to reform (this is a long story), so I told him to come here so I could mentor him, and so he could contribute constructively. If he didn't cause disruption here, then I'd unblock him. If he did cause disruption, then that's another story, and there's some IPs that will have to be blocked as a preventative measure. Inferno, Lord of Penguins Lorum ipsum 01:20, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- I know that this isn't rehab, but he needed somewhere to contribute, so...yeah. If he did anything to disrupt here, then leave the block in-place. Inferno, Lord of Penguins Lorum ipsum 01:22, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see anything disruptive in his contribs. Is he blocked only because of en, or is there more to this that I can't see? If it's just because of en, then I ask that you unblock; I doubt he is going to go vandal again. Inferno, Lord of Penguins Lorum ipsum 01:31, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- "I know that this isn't rehab, but he needed somewhere to contribute" No, he doesn't need anywhere to contribute. Editing a wiki is not a right and a guarantee. It is totally inappropriate to be using this as a test wiki to get him to eventually be unblocked on En. wiki. We have enough problems on our project without adding in people who are just using us to reach goals elsewhere, especially those with the negative pasts like he has. Either way (talk) 01:50, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
- I've looked into the circumstances of SMG's block and it does appear to be justified. I don't see a compelling reason to unblock (even if a formal request had been made on his talk page, which it hasn't.) The fact is, he's was recently banned on EN and his edits here are copying articles from EN and providing minimal simplification, plus a Request for Adminship. Sorry Inferno, LoP, but SMG is going to have to go somewhere else (there are plenty of non-WMF wikis) and come back when he's ready. Simple is struggling enough without needed to guide people who have been banned from EN (which does have the resources to guide new users). Regards, EhJJTALK 04:36, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

It's ok...I had actually been hoping to get him to stay here, as his level of english seemed suitable to this wiki (plus the whole issue with en), I had hoped I'd be able to provide guidance here (admittedly I should have been watching his contribs more closely, I've been busy in real life though). I guess I'll just have to direct him to some non-wmf wiki like you pointed out earlier. I do have one question though: RfA? Did something happen that I was unaware of? Lord of Penguins alternate (talk) 15:56, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, it's too bad. He created an RfA at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/SchnitzelMannGreek which was deleted. I've sent you the contents of the deleted page, so you have a better idea of why I didn't feel unblocking was appropriate. EhJJTALK 16:02, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

- Hello, my name is Griffinofwales and I noticed you are an admin. I am here to request rollback rights. I have been at simple.wikipedia a short time, however I have rollback rights at en.wikipedia and I understand the responsibility that comes with the tool. Thank you for listening. Griffinofwales (talk) 00:45, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I'm not autoconfirmed and I have rollback! I will try to get Twinkle to work in a few days. Thanks. Griffinofwales (talk) 00:58, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- I had the same thing when I joined Simple. There's no way to give you autoconfirmed, so while you can be trusted with an admin tool (Rollback) you can't edit semi-protected pages or move pages, etc. It's one of those idiosyncratic parts of Wikipedia. Again, welcome! We can always use more experienced editors and vandal-fighters. EhJJTALK 01:04, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Twinkle works now. But, it now shows up twice. I deleted all the entries in my monobook except one, and they didn't go away. For example, when I view a diff, there are 2 buttons for every type of rollback, and 2 buttons for restoring. There are 2 buttons in the top right corner to warn users etc. How do I fix this annoying problem (I tried purging). Griffinofwales (talk) 03:43, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Fixed. Thank you. Griffinofwales (talk) 04:12, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
I turned off my computer and when I turned it back on this morning and logged into Wikipedia, Twinkle was gone! Could you please check my monobook? I'm not sure what is wrong (Twinkle works fine at en.wikipedia). Griffinofwales (talk) 12:53, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Twinkle works, but the warning system does not. There is no warn tab at the top of the page. Griffinofwales (talk) 13:03, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Everything works now. That was odd. Never mind. Griffinofwales (talk) 13:06, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
How do I stop Twinkle from adding articles & user talk pages to my watchlist. It gets annoying and at this project it's easier to scan recent changes instead of a watchlist. Griffinofwales (talk) 21:52, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
The Twinkle warn tab is not present unless the page has not been created. So, if the user has no warnings I can warn them with Twinkle, but if the user has warnings I can not warn them. How do I fix this annoying problem? Griffinofwales (talk) 17:34, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- Now the twinkle tab is present everywhere. Why does the tab come and go? It is not present when I first log in, but after 15-30 mins it shows up. I don't have this problem at en.wikipedia. Griffinofwales (talk) 18:07, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
First, Twinkle sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't (I warned a user, but I couldn't warn the next user [both already had warnings]). I have 7 errors in the error log (I use firefox). 2 errors involve simple.wikipedia(I got that info from the URL provided) however they look like they involve HotCat and not Twinkle. Should I send the errors to you anyways? Griffinofwales (talk) 18:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- I guess it couldn't hurt to send me the error reports, regardless. In the future, if Twinkle doesn't show up, can you try simply refreshing the page? It may just be a problem with the Wikipedia servers (they are not sending all of the page information). Otherwise, I can't tell why you're having this problem, because I have not. Bluegoblin7 is also somewhat involved with developing Twinkle, so we could ask for his input as well. EhJJTALK 19:07, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
- I have tried refreshing. The error report is long, so I am e-mailing it to you. Griffinofwales (talk) 19:15, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Since you seem to be in charge of Twinkle here (or the development of Twinkle), I bring this request to you. I recently warned a user with a vandalism-1 template w/ Twinkle, because I could not warn them using a unsourced template w/ Twinkle. Twinkle at en. has it, so I was wondering whether you could add it to the warnings? Thanks (and sorry if I am bothering you a lot). Griffinofwales (talk) 01:43, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Eh?
User talk:79.91.227.163 - On this page, you warned a user for making a test edit using the vandalism template when he/she used the sandbox for making that test edit. This warning should not have been issued, as the user was testing in the sandbox. Thanks, Razorflame 16:03, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Hi EhJJ! I agree with Razorflame. The sandbox is for such tests. And btw, reverting of this is not needed, because a bot do it. Regards, Barras (talk) 16:07, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- The notice was for making test changes to 3! and 8!. I reverted the edit in the Sandbox because he had deleted the header when making his test edits. EhJJTALK 16:35, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. Thanks for the explanation! This helps to explain it :) I thought that you had given him the warning for the sandbox test edit. My mistake :) Good work! Cheers, Razorflame 16:37, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- That's understood. I should have made it more clear when I left the original warning, because obviously the editor was confused also. I've left a note to clarify. EhJJTALK 16:41, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- (change conflict) OK to the warning :) But the bot replaces the header (I think?). SO reverting of the sandbox is not needed. Only if there is an offensive test or so. Regards, Barras (talk) 16:38, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I my aim was to restore the header quickly so that if anyone else went to the sandbox, they'd have the instructions there. I don't understand what's so confusing about {{Please leave this line alone (sandbox heading)}}! EhJJTALK 16:41, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Most IP (vandals) remove or change the header. So to say: take it easy. the sandbox is not used so much and the bot clean it every hour... I am too lazy to revert the sandbox if it is not necessary. But it is not a problem for me if you do it :) Regards, Barras (talk) 16:45, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Would it be possible to create a header in the Sandbox that could not be removed through editing? Sounds a little preposterous to me, but I think that it could help to avoid problems like these in the future. Cheers, Razorflame 16:48, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- No, not really. Barras (talk) 16:49, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Technically it is possible, I believe, with some edits to Common.css or Common.js to create such a heading. I'll ask about it at Simple talk, because Bluegoblin or Chenzw might have a better idea of how to do this. EhJJTALK 16:52, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Technically we can protect the page, but I am not an expert in js and css. That would be a protection of only x lines of a complete page. Barras (talk) 16:55, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- You can create editnotices on pages that can't be removed. But I am not sure if they are implemented on simple. en.wiki used to have them but recently switched to a new method which I haven't figured out exactly how it works yet. -Djsasso (talk) 17:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Thought you'd get a kick out of this...
Earlier today, a user at EN who's been following the continuing Bambifan101 saga did a hilariously funny tweak to his rant which in turn is now a part of Wikipedia humor lore. BTW, I'm now "TheRescuersfan101" over there (and on the essay) since the guy actually posted his password to another talk page when I was offering to mentor him. I changed the password to protect him, but when he cut loose with the rant you're about to see, well, I couldn't resist the opportunity to create a doppleganger account out of it just for fun. I know you'll get a laugh out of this. Enjoy! Regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 03:29, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

patrolled edits?
I was looking through your log, and I noticed that some of the entries were marked 'patrolled (automatic)'. What does this mean here at simpleWP (I have never heard of it being used here or at enWP)? Griffinofwales (talk) 02:55, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Patrolled edits is something built into the MediaWiki software (meta:Help:Patrolled edit) that allows for trusted users to double check edits made by other editors. en:Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol and en:Wikipedia:New pages patrol may provide some more insight. Currently, we do not use the MediaWiki patrol feature at Simple (but it was suggested recently at Simple talk). As an administrator (and the same applies at en), I'm considered trustworthy enough that my changes/edits are automatically marked as patrolled. I hope that answers your question. EhJJTALK 12:23, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Actually protrolled edits is turned on here, just no one uses it.
You are marked as automatically patrolled because you are an admin.Duh you already said that...its too early in the morning. -Djsasso (talk) 12:50, 1 June 2009 (UTC)- *elbows in* Is there any way to check pages that have not been patrolled? I've never noticed such a page. I've seen the "Mark page as patrolled" but is there a list/category to see those which have not been? Kennedy (talk • changes). (I ♥ MC8) 15:00, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Special:NewPages shows new pages and (to admins only on se, and also autoconfirmed on en) it shows which have been patrolled. EhJJTALK 15:07, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. Griffinofwales (talk) 16:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw that...
We had a bit of a misunderstanding over it on his talk page. It's water under the bridge now. Next time, I'll do an ANI report. To my way of thinking, anyone who's created a hundred socks at EN alone falls under the "vandalism in progress" category. Oh, well. You may wish to consider doing what I and a couple of other admins have done over there, namely semi-protect his pet targets. I put the whammy on EN's version of The Rescuers per the request of another user who's been doing legit work to the article and he's happy as the proverbial clam over it. Since he's so single-minded, perhaps blocking access to his faves will finally shoo him off. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:09, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
Hi! I'm very close to saving a massive expansion of HIV. Will you be available at some point to go over it for accuracy? Hi. I closed the recent RFD you filed. I wanted to tell you what I do in such situations. When will the new feature be ready? Griffinofwales (talk) 15:52, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay. The way gadgets are set up is very confusing. Also, I'm in the process of moving my 1 bedroom apartment from St. Louis to New York, to start at a new job, so I've been busy. In the future, you can ask another admin (especially Chenzw, if it's about the MediaWiki interface or gadgets), but perhaps you were checking with me first before asking someone else. No worries, I've just been busy and haven't had time to edit on the wiki. I've updated the code (to notice the difference, you may need to refresh your browser cache, usually with Ctrl+F5), so let me know if it does not work properly. Hi EhJJ, it may have been heavy handed, but it looked to me like it was starting as a series of attacks between two anon editors. I thought hiding it from the recent changes would help stop it from escalating. --Peterdownunder (talk) 02:09, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. Oversighting makes it a little for difficult for admins without the flag to know what happened and act accordingly. However, that's not a big deal. I just want to make sure that oversight isn't being abused. Thanks again! EhJJTALK 02:35, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi there EhJJ,
You've got an article queued up for the next Issue of Simple News. You might like to take time to review it and if needed make changes before the Issue is delivered.
Thanks for your interest.

Change my block
Hi
Please could you change my bloxk to Janurary 2010 please. My username is Samlaptop85213.
- Sam, you've just blown your chances of getting unblocked by using your IP address. If you just leave the wiki alone now that your requests are denied and come back in a few months (say, January 2010) you'll find us much more amenable. Cheers, Goblin 13:23, 23 October 2009 (UTC) I ♥ Fr33kman!
- Here's the way I see it. Either you should be unblocked now or you should not be unblocked now. There is no reason to auto-unblock you at some arbitrary point in the future. You said "The reason why I was silly back in Feburary is because of my Autisim. I not always like that. In real life I'm kind to everything, I'm not silly all the time. So please could you shorten my block please." The parts that worries me is the "I not always like that." Not always or not ever? I'm not going to unblock you if you promise to sometimes not be silly. You need to convince us that you will never be silly and will always try to follow the rules. The block isn't punishment, it's meant to keep users who waste our time from wasting more of our time. Please think about this and request an unblock when you are ready to contribute constructively to the project without any silliness. EhJJTALK 01:58, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Please look at my monobook page. None of the TW functions are working (I have tried purging cache). Griffinofwales2 (talk) 00:52, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- What browser are you using. Since this is your "not at home" account, I'm guessing you're at a library or internet cafe, in which case you're probably using Internet Explorer. If so, Twinkle doesn't work with IE. If not, have you tried using both your primary and alternate accounts from the same computer using the same browser, but one works and the other doesn't? Break link, please
There is at present a link between Inbreeding and Incest. The incest page is, of course, about the human crime. However, I wish to create a more general page on inbreeding as part of rewrites and edits in Genetics, including Population genetics. Thank you Macdonald-ross (talk) 09:29, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
- Hey there, in order to "break the link", all you need to do is edit the inbreeding article. When you get directed through to Incest you will see underneath the title text similar to "Redirected from Inbreeding" - click that link and then just edit the page. Regards, Goblin 09:32, 26 November 2009 (UTC) I ♥ Chenzw!
- Bluegoblin7 is right. If you click the small link, it will send you to this page: http://simple.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Inbreeding&redirect=no There, you can edit the redirect page. EhJJTALK 15:17, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

RFD on List of Mario series characters
Couple of things
- I threw out the life preserver on List of Mario series characters.
- I RFDed all the pages in Category:Mario series characters, including List of Mario series characters, so we can reorganize them and get rid of the hash on all those pages. I believe that RFD supersedes your RFD. Purplebackpack89 (talk) 18:43, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Pakistani editor again
Hi there EhJJ. Can you please block 85.133.46.70 (talk · contribs · count)? He is the Pakistani editor and he is starting to make more POV pushing edits. Thanks, Razorflame 20:13, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it's the same person. The Pakistani editor used 95.x.x.x (or 92.x.x.x, I'm not 100% sure) IP addresses, but this guy is from 85.x.x.x. Furthermore, so far only two edits which are not obvious pakistani POV pushes. Perhaps try his talk page, but if he's still a problem, please put a note on WP:AN. I need to be afk for a bit. EhJBot3
Hi EhJJ. I've blocked your bot due to several odd edits that it has made to Wikipedia:RecentChanges. Three times it has incorrectly changed the number of PVGAs and once it has messed up with updating DYK. Not sure if this is a code error in the bot or what, but I've blocked it to prevent people from having to undo its changes. As it is your bot, you may obviously unblock it if you feel my block was in error, or the issue is solved. Kind regards, ···Katerenka (討論) 12:08, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. It looks likely that the bot failed to load the page from the Wikipedia servers (perhaps the servers were offline or overloaded). Regardless, I'll add some error-correction so that if the page doesn't load, it won't default to 0, but will rather re-try in a few minutes. I've killed the bot and will be testing out improved code. I understand from above that you're ok with me unblocking it. Again, thanks! EhJJTALK 23:14, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, makes sense. I'm glad that this all worked out amiably. ···Katerenka (討論) 08:53, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Query
Would it be possible to write a bot/automated process that looks at a specific page (user:Lauryn Ashby/blockIP.js for example) and then blocks the IP address listed there with a predetermined set of settings (i.e. expiry=1 year, account creation blocked, cannot change own talk page, reason={{blocked proxy}})? Thanks in advance. :) Lauryn☆ 23:10, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- Definitely possible. You would need to get community consensus to allow a bot to be flagged as an admin. Or, you could let it edit under your login, where you'd be completely responsible for its actions. EhJJTALK 23:53, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- I was thinking that it would be easier to let it edit under my username, that way I could fill the list, run the bot to block them and then shut the bot down. Though there are perks to having it have its own account, that way the code writer could have access to it, which they wouldn't have if it ran from my account. Lauryn☆ 23:56, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- The problem is that any admin can edit any page, and would be able to get the bot to block people using your account. Why do you want it to read a wiki page? Would a bot that reads a local file on your computer (i.e. a text file) work equally well? Also, I can write the bot in such a way that you need to log in before it runs (i.e. log in each time it starts). EhJJTALK 00:06, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, you're quite right, I had forgotten that admins can edit other users .js and .css. It would be much better if it looks at a Word document on my computer that is private as opposed to a page on Wikipedia that everyone can see/admins can edit. Having the bot only run when I have logged on is what I was wanting as well, so that when I log off for the night, it logs off with me and does not come back online until I sign on again in the morning. Lauryn☆ 00:13, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Re: EhJBot5 -- The action of this bot was helpful to me. One of my errors was a simple spelling mistake. It was easily identified and corrected.
The other mistake caused me to consider a question I hadn't previously imagined. The bot identified a broken link to simple.Wiktionary; but the real error wasn't the link.
The more important error was a kind of typo in serial articles about the early Japanese emperors. I had mistakenly added "wikt" to what I had intended to be an internal hyperlink. My intention was to type Legend|legendary]]; and I can't explain the curious error in creating [[wikt:legend|legendary]].
Your bot action caused me to question whether it is better to create an internal hyperlink to a simple.Wikipedia article or to a simple.Wiktionary entry?
This critical question became an unanticipated consequece of your bot action. --Tenmei (talk) 17:52, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Flood flag and AWB
Hello, EhJJ. Fr33kman told me to see you about the flood flag and AWB ("Stop for now and see EhJJ about AWB and flood flags. fr33kman 05:42, 1 August 2010 (UTC)"). You may see the short conversation at User talk:Kansan#Flooding. Note: I've been flooding, and my bot wont be granted the bot flag. What can I do? Hazard-SJ Talk 05:51, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
- You do not have enough experience to be trusted with a full bot account. In my opinion, the best thing would be to make a request at WT:BOTS#Non-bot status requests or the WP:AN requesting the bot flag temporarily for a specific purpose. Make sure you tell us how many pages you plan on editing and how long you think it will take. If it's a few hours, and there is a crat willing to flag you and monitor your changes (if no one else is, I will be willing on some evening, but not in the the next 18 hours, at least), you should be able to get the bot flag temporarily. Alternately, if there is no crat to supervise, but an admin can, then I can flag you and that admin can watch your changes and block the bot if it does anything wrong. Please find out how many pages need the {{orphan}} page and let me know if this plan works for you. EhJJTALK 02:31, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I'll try that, but I can't do it now; its getting late. Hazard-SJ Talk 02:36, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

HTTP is not a programming language, so it can not be used to write a bot. To learn about the API, take a look at MW:API. If you don't understand the page, then writing a bot from scratch is probably not a good idea for you. If that is the case, you may want to use a pre-made bot, like AWB or pywikibot. - You can learn Java on your own, if you'd like. As I said before, I do not have time to teach you how to write a bot. I have other things to do in real life, plus I came to Wikipedia to help build a free encyclopedia, not to teach people the Java programming language. EhJJTALK 03:09, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- Can you help me with a pywikibot then? Hazard-SJ Talk 03:14, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hazard, at this stage you should probably stick with AWB... you can learn through online tutorials if you like. We're here to build an encyclopedia and writing a bot is best left to the competent, since we all have different skills to bring. sonia♫♪ 03:16, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Bot flag
Actually, to tell the truth, I was making a list. I have 100 in mind, and I am currently at 87. Just one problem: my bot would need access to AWB. Could you please add him? Thank you. Hazard-SJ Talk 00:36, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- EhJJ was talking about flagging your main account with the bot flag while you AWB orphan tagged things. @Lauryn (parlez) 00:40, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Nah, I can flag either account. Actually, I'd prefer the bot account. EhJJTALK 00:40, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Really? Forgive my intrusion, then, as I was under the impression that that was a no-go from reading through WT:BOTS. Carry on. ;) @Lauryn (parlez) 00:42, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- You are always welcome on my talk page, Lauryn Ashby. Hazard is not permitted to have an unsupervised full-time bot-flagged account. However, policy on Simple allows for any admin to give the flood flag to any user for short-term supervised flooding. The bot flag is essentially identical to the flood flag, except it has a different name. So, to restate my edit summary when I added Hazard-Bot: Permitted to use AWB, but NOT for automated edits. Must request bot flag if doing any more than a FEW changes per day! This is, essentially, an "alternate account" and not a "bot" quite yet. EhJJTALK 00:47, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for both your kind words and the explanation. I appreciate it. :) Cheers, @Lauryn (parlez) 20:16, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Some questions
Did you have critic pages? Nataly8 (talk) 14:15, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Do you mean Wikipedia:Editor review? If not, what do you mean by "critic"? EhJJTALK 14:18, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I wrote the article List of Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes (because I want complete the article Avatar: The Last Airbender). It's big, and I want to know how do it better. Critic page is the place where everyone can say his opinion and help the writters of article to do it better. Nataly8 (talk) 14:25, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, that is one purpose of the Editor review. EhJJTALK 16:09, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi, what means changed group membership for User:The Three Headed Knight from (none) to Flooders (per request to revert recent awb changes)? Nataly8 (talk) 16:35, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Special:RecentChanges lists all changes made by all users. People with the flood flag, and bots with the bot flag are hidden from the list by default. This means they can make lots of changes quickly but still allow us to monitor all the other changes in between. It is not something you need to know about as a new user unless you want to make lots of small changes very quickly. EhJJTALK 16:38, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. Nataly8 (talk) 16:42, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

- I checked both nl:FC Barcelona in 2010-11 and de:FC Barcelona in 2010-11, but neither exists. The page I deleted only had tables and no prose. These sort of statistics, without any paragraphs to support them, do not belong on Wikipedia. I am not going to reverse my deletion, but if you would like to ask another administrator to review this, the page is Wikipedia:Deletion review. EhJJTALK 17:47, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

A good example of what this page should look like is en:2010–11 FC Barcelona season. I don't speak Korean, but ko:FC 바르셀로나 2010-11 시즌 is likely also a good example (the korean page doesnt contain paragraphs). In the future, please do not use ALL CAPS TO YELL AT ME, it is considered rude. EhJJTALK 12:47, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

Block
Hi there! I saw you blocked FalcoPunch (talk · contribs) for abusing one or more accounts. I already suggested socking on his account and checked it therefore, but I can't see any socks or other real abuse. Actually, this is the only account by this user. May I ask you who you think this user is. I just can't confirm this block. And btw, are you done on simplewikt? -Barras (talk) 21:52, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
- See the history of Grawp (shortcut). I suppose this could go for RfCU, but I felt it was almost certainly the same person based on behaviour and that, even if they come back unrelated, that the account should be blocked and the IP is likely a proxy. If you feel that I am in error, based on CU data, you are welcome to revert my block. As for simplewikt, I'm sorry that I have been really busy all week at the hospital. I will make any further changes this weekend, so if you can wait to de-sysop me until Monday (about noon UTC), I would appreciate it. Best, EhJJTALK 01:51, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Also, there are some old changes by Special:DeletedContributions/Grawp, and some other socks. I'm not sure if Category:Sockpuppets of Snow funn at tall are also related, or just copy-cat vandalism. EhJJTALK 02:06, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- OK! I will try to get old cu data from the mailing list see if the UA/IP is related. I just was curious. As for wikt, no rush, as usual, I was just curious ;) -Barras (talk) 09:46, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Just rechecked the user (again) and compared the data I got with old things from the cu list. I also double checked if the IP used is an open proxy, but it doesn't appear to be one. I'd pretty sure say it is not not related to Grawp or Snow funn. I will consult my fellows before I act, thought it seems pretty clear. -Barras (talk) 16:26, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ok. I am by no means perfect, but the edit was highly suspicious to the point of being almost certain. The user's edit was similar to a pattern of vandalism that we've seen in the past. Given there is no evidence of socking, I'll unblock the user and we can wait. There is likely little harm in unblocking the account and monitoring it closely. Seems better than spending a lot of time checking an account which may never be used again. EhJJTALK 16:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- No one is perfect, we all know. No worries. The account may just be a vandalism-only account after all. I will also keep an eye on this account and the IP. I also know that the edit was very suspicious, and that why I already checked when I saw this, already before you blocked the account. -Barras (talk) 16:58, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

I make a report already with form
Stay
Yes, I think I'ld better contribute some articles here on simple English wiki. This is not my mother tongue, however I think this language is more or less clear for those new to wikipedia and who have to use simple English. I guess I'ld write mostly on Krishna consciousness, sometimes even having to start new articles because to change whatever written by others sometimes would mean to rewrite them almost completely. And this seems to be a better place then huge ('full') English wikipedia.
problem
I am having trouble getting Twinkle to work. Could you help me? Crazymonkey1123 (talk) 04:59, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, what's the problem? EhJJTALK 06:18, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- I have it set to run in my settings, but nothing happens. Do I have to be placed on a whitelist of users who can use Twinkle? I am way past autoconfirmed. I also cleared my browser cache and that did not help. Crazymonkey1123 (talk) 16:13, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- Can you tell me a little about your setup; namely: what browser and which skin (i.e. Firefox 4, Vector). EhJJTALK 16:56, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- I run FireFox 4 and use the vector skin. Crazymonkey1123 (talk) 21:01, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
- I just checked it on my own Firefox 4 running the Vector skin and it appears to be working alright for me. That said, see the next section about updating Twinkle... I'll probably try to do that some time in the next week or so, in which case your problem may become solved. Sorry, the only thing I can suggest at this time is remove the gadget and just have it installed in your skin (i.e. vector.js) file, since the gadgets can often be buggy. Also, if you'd like, use Ctrl+Shift+J in Firefox to get the error console, clear everything, and then try reloading a typical wikipedia page. If you get a specific "Error" that has to do with Twinkle, it would give me a place to start. Otherwise, I can only see that I get no error personally, and it appears to be working for me (although buggy because the version here is really outdated). Regards, EhJJTALK 05:28, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

One other thing, you can also try adding:
importScript('User:EhJJ/Gadget-vectorskin-thunks.js');
to your vector.js file. This may make it work until I've permanently fixed the problem. EhJJTALK 18:21, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
