Toshimitsu Motegi (茂木 敏充, Motegi Toshimitsu, born 7 October 1955) is a Japanese politician. He was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 11 September 2019 until 4 November 2021.[1] He was Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry from 2012 to 2014. He is also a member of the House of Representatives since 1993. From 2021 to 2024, Motegi was the Secretary-General of the Liberal Democratic Party.
In September 2024, Motegi announced his candidacy for the Liberal Democratic leadership election to replace Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.[2] He lost the election to former Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba on 27 September 2024.[3]
