Joseph Zen

Joseph Zen Ze-kiun SDB (Shanghainese[zəɲ zəʔ tɕyəɲ], born 13 January 1932) is a cardinal of the Catholic Church from Hong Kong. He was born in Shanghai.

Zen was the sixth Bishop of Hong Kong from 2002 to 2009. He was appointed cardinal in 2006. He is also an activist about human rights, political freedom, and religious liberty. He is also a strong supporter for Hong Kong democracy and has been criticize by China.[1]

On 11 May 2022 he was arrested by the National Security Police and later that day released on bail.[2]
