Chiwetel Ejiofor

Chiwetelu Umeadi "Chiwetel" Ejiofor OBE (born 10 July 1977) is a British actor. He played Solomon Northup in the 2013 movie 12 Years a Slave. He was nominated for the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama at the 2014 Golden Globe Awards for his acting in the movie. His first movie role was in the 1996 movie Voyage. In 2008, Ejiofor was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.[1] Ejiofor played the band leader Louis Lester in the television series Dancing on the Edge. It had six episodes.

In 2019, he starred as Scar in the 2019 live-action remake The Lion King.

Early life

Ejiofor was born on 10 July 1977 in Forest Gate, London, to Nigerian parents. He started acting in school plays when he was 13.[2]

In 1996 Ejiofor acted in his first film, Deadly Voyage. In 2002, he played the main character in a movie for the first time in Dirty Pretty Things. He won the 2003 British Independent Film Award for best actor for the film. In 2005 Ejiofor played Lola in Kinky Boots.
