The arrondissement of Rodez is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Aveyron département in the Occitanie region. Its capital, and préfecture of the department, is the city of Rodez.

When the arrondissements were created in 1800, Rodez was one of them in the Aveyron department.[2]

Geography

[change | change source]

It is the most northern of the arrondissements of the department with an area of 3,974.4 square kilometres (1,535 square miles), the largest in area, and the most populated of the department with 143,841 inhabitants and a population density of 36.2 inhabitants/km².[3]

The arrondissement is bordered to the north by the Cantal (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes) department, to the east by the Lozère (Occitanie) department, to the southwest and to the south by the arrondissement of Millau, and to the west by the Tarn (Occitanie) department and by the arrondissement of Villefranche-de-Rouergue.

Composition

[change | change source]

After the reorganisation of the cantons in France,[4] cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.

In the arrondissement of Rodez, there are only four cantons where not all their "communes" are in the arrondissement: Aveyron et Tarn, Enne et Alzou, Lot et Dourdou and [[ canton of Raspes et Lévezou|Raspes et Lévezou]]. The following table shows the distribution of the "communes" in the cantons and arrondissements:
