Akebono (satellite)
Akebono (あけぼの) is the name of a Japanese artificial satellite put into orbit.
The launch was a project of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science of the University of Tokyo.
The satellite was sent into orbit on February 22, 1989.[1]
Akebono was designed to study auroras and the magnetosphere of earth. The satellite remained operational for 20+ years.[2]
