Cat

PreS-K-This story about a day in the life of an orange striped cat is told mainly through the pictures. In the first of seven episodes, the feline gets away from a threatening dog by climbing a tree. Subsequently, Cat deals with a mouse, a sprinkler, a bird, a bike, a carton of milk, and a warm mat. Each vignette concludes with, "Thank goodness for that!" The pen-and-ink and gouache illustrations feature surroundings in yellows and browns, which make for a warm overall feeling. The scruffy cat has oversize green eyes and races and chases through the scenes, taking readers along for the ride. Most of Cat's adventures unfold over four pages, the first presenting Cat and an adversary ("Cat. Sprinkler"), then the reverse ("Sprinkler. Cat"), next an escape ("High fence"), and finally the refrain: "Thank goodness for that!"
