Castle Kennedy is a smaw veelage 3 mile east o Stranrawer in the historical coonty o Wigtounshire in Dumfries an Gallowa, Scotland. It is on the A75 road an within the ceevil pairish o Inch. The veelage is til the sooth o the Lochinch Castle estate that includes the ruins o the 17t century Castle Kennedy (castle), as weel as the Castle Kennedy Gairdens that is appen til the public.

Afore the Reformation the twa lochs within the Lochinch estate, Black Loch and White Loch, wis thegither kent as Loch Crindil. A smaw island in the White Loch wis the site o a kirk[1] that micht hae gien the pairish its name: "the Inch", fae the Gaelic: innis, meanin "island".

Castle Kennedy wis built in 1607 as a big hoose bi John Kennedy, 5t Yerl o Cassilis, on the site o an aulder castle. It wis acquire't in 1677 bi John Dalrymple, 1st Yerl o Stair, thou the hoose burnt doun in 1716. John Dalrymple, 2t Yerl o Stair reteent the ruin as a focal pynt for new formal gairdens laid oot in the 1730s. In the 1860s the 9t an 10t Yerls built Lochinch Castle on the estate, ina "Franco-Scottish" style, an pairtial sortit the 18t century gairdesn that hid fawen intae ruination.[2] The estate remeens the haudin o the Yerl o Stair, an Castle Kennedy Gairdens is appen til the public. Castle Kennedy hid a railwey station on the Portpatrick and Wigtownshire Joint Railway that appent in 1861 an closed in 1965.
