As we are still waiting for T86517 to be able to add chemical nomenclature to Wikidata, that won't be possible without simple formatting.

Affected user said that the font used is Times. However, he is no longer interested in solving this problem, as he now also uses modern web browser, where there is no problem with rendering titles with italic font, so I think this can be marked as invalid/declined?

Everything looks good for me.

What makes you think that this is an issue in MediaWiki and not the font used on the affected machine?
As I said, I don't know if this is a problem with MediaWiki. There was a discussion and quite serious disagreement about using DISPLAYTITLE, but it finally turned out that different users see different formatting.

@Deskana As a person who placed here this request, I feel obligated to clarify a few issues. Firstly, I'm truly sorry that there were comments in this thread from Polish Wikipedia contributors which were uncivil and very emotional. This is not the way the discussion should be conducted, nor is it the way that is accepted here or in Polish Wikipedia. However, the fact is that many people were deeply disappointed by this decision and the rejection of unanimous consensus was met with general incomprehension. It also deepened the division between project volunteers and WMF staff, while also increasing the negative attitude towards WMF activities.

I can only agree with Wpedzich: this limitation should be permanent on pl.wikipedia. Also, it should not be reverted without clear support from pl.wiki community.

There is no community consensus about activating this feature. The discussion in pl.wiki (link in the description) shows that over 50% of users are against this option, so I really do not understand how it is possible to deploy it on pl.wiki...
