Add information to InteGraality user guide from Wikipedia Workbook for Cultural Institutions
Open, LowPublic

Description

Task overview:
This documentation task involves improving tool documentation by supplementing on-wiki docs for the inteGraality tool with information from a guide that was created for a specific audience/domain and published in a PDF. The task includes:

  • Understanding information about how to create and modify InteGraality dashboards and underlying configuration
  • Comparing information between two sources to identify what is missing
  • Deciding which pieces of information would be helpful to a general audience of the tool's users
  • Revising the tool's existing documentation on-wiki to include the additional information
  • Communicating and collaborating with tool maintainers and other community members as needed

Task details:
User:Mary_Mark_Ockerbloom created a detailed, step-by-step guide to using the inteGraality tool in her 2024 publication of the Wikipedia Workbook for Cultural Institutions (starting on page 42). This guide provides more detail about how to use the tool than what is currently available in the tool's documentation at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Tools/inteGraality. Since the workbook is not likely to be easily discovered by tool users, it would be good for some of this information to be integrated into the tool's documentation.

Event Timeline

Thank you for tagging this task with good first task for Wikimedia newcomers!

Newcomers often may not be aware of things that may seem obvious to seasoned contributors, so please take a moment to reflect on how this task might look to somebody who has never contributed to Wikimedia projects.

A good first task is a self-contained, non-controversial task with a clear approach. It should be well-described with pointers to help a completely new contributor, for example it should clearly pointed to the codebase URL and provide clear steps to help a contributor get setup for success. We've included some guidelines at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/tag/good_first_task/ !

Thank you for helping us drive new contributions to our projects <3

Hi there, I'd like to contribute by working on this if that's okay.

Hello everyone, I’m new to Wikimedia and have taken on this task. After reviewing the tool InteGraality, I have initiated a discussion on the Wikidata talk page. You can find the link here: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Wikidata_talk%3ATools%2FinteGraality#Adding_Detailed_Instructions_from_the_2024_Wikipedia_Workbook_for_InteGraality I would appreciate guidance on how to proceed with this task.

Thank you! Will do so ASAP!
