Context

You are looking for the simplest way to request a filtered set of images from Commons to develop a tool to illustrate Wikipedia articles. You try searching on Google, StackOverflow, WikiTech, and MediaWiki and find the API sandbox. There's an overwhelming number of parameters you don't know how to use so you ask the question on a talk page hoping someone can help you out.
