[ännern]From Ooldgreeksch ο (o). Introduced at the end of the 11th century to replace the diphthong աւ (aw), which by then had begun to be pronounced as IPA(key): [o], e.g. աւգոստոս (awgostos) became օգոստոս (ōgostos).
