[edit]The correct usage is {{Date||MM|DD}}. If there is no year, please keep a blank but not delete the first parameter. What you wrote in Template:Main Page/WM News had made the Chinese version show a confusing version and I corrected them. Thank you. Hehua (talk) 01:01, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

FYI
[edit]Good day, I've requested for removal of your translation admin user right. --Min☠︎rax«¦talk¦» 14:56, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping. I have relayed this to my manager. Best, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out Minorax. I'm Ramzy's manager and went over the revisions you've provided. We both understand better now the need to allow the translation system to provide the unit numbers automatically, from the guidance available. We appreciate your help in providing high-quality translation mark up and bringing this to our attention. Xeno (WMF) (talk) 21:01, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
- @RamzyM, @Xeno, another issue: translatable headings should be followed with an empty new line. Sorry for pointing those kind of minor issues, but we are tired to fix them because WMF do not enough train its staff. -- Pols12 (talk) 17:06, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Pols12: hi, thanks for pointing this out. I followed the markup examples in this MediaWiki guide that says "Headings can in principle be tied to the following paragraph, but it is better to have them separated with an empty line." Appreciate you for reminding this best practice from your perspective. Best, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 05:24, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing this misrecommendation: if headings are alone in their own unit, an English anchor is added on translation page, which allow to make links-to-section with Special:MyLanguage. That feature probably didn’t exist when the guide was edited. I am fixing this page. -- Pols12 (talk) 11:50, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Much appreciated, Pols12! RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 14:01, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

PEarley
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you marked PEarley (WMF) as being former staff, but they still have their user groups and haven't been locked (which I believe is what usually happens for former staff). Just wanted to check if Patrick is still staff or not (feel free to weigh in if you see this ping too, Patrick!). Sdrqaz (talk) 13:16, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Sdrqaz, thanks for your question. I put the mark to avoid confusion should there's anyone mentioned or asked questions to Patrick in regard to the ongoing U4C election. Let me confirm back for you on this one. Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 01:37, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- I don't really understand how the addition of the template is related to the election, unless Patrick will be leaving the Foundation soon and you don't want them to get questions about it. Thank you for asking for further information. Sdrqaz (talk) 01:56, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- I see that my question was resolved ... Thanks for your help. Sdrqaz (talk) 21:09, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, I wasn't able to say more about this until the usual lock is implemented :) Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 10:11, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

Question
[edit]I have a question that (I think) most people want to ask all U4C candidates, but I can’t ask it myself because I’m not an eligible voter. Can you ask it for me? The question is below.
Systemic issues
[edit]Would you be willing to investigate your most commonly edited wiki for systemic issues, even if doing so causes you to be socially ostracized on that wiki? [insert signature here] Adrianmn1110 (talk) 13:09, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Adrianmn1110, thanks for your message. Unfortunately, it would not be appropriate for me as support staff for this election to ask a question to the candidates on behalf of another individual. I hope you understand this situation here. Best, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 12:40, 8 April 2024 (UTC)

U4C
[edit]Dear Ramzy,
How you do? Thank you for your kind reminder of the election. Unfortunately, it is not my intention to vote. Basically, I lost clue of whatever the vote is about. And I don't have the time, the resources, and the vocation to start an in depth study of such matters, as they seem to have moved way beyond the understanding of the average human being, to enter the realm of the experts, connosieurs and -I guess- interested parties.
Therefore, I have decided to devote my energies -these being in increasingly shorter supply- to the endavours that fulfil more directly and in a way that I manage to understand the improvement of my intellect. Those activities being partly Wikimedia related, but also including non Wikimedia parts.
I find very frustrating and quite contradictory that an organization trying to reach everybody has developed into some kind of bureaucratic behemoth. Such things happen!
Thanks a lot for your very kind communication and receive my best wishes. B25es (talk) 05:55, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- @B25es: hi there, thanks for your thoughtful message. I appreciate your stance and hope that the development of the Universal Code of Conduct system in the future can be beneficial for Wikimedians like you and me. Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 14:16, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
Reminder to vote now to select members of the first U4C
[edit]It says Sorry, you are not in the predetermined list of users authorized to vote in this election. Why are you sending me a reminder on a talkpage if I cannot vote??? Ludost Mlačani (talk) 07:20, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Ludost Mlačani the Message says: You are receiving this message because you previously participated in the UCoC process. It would be an extraordinary effort to limit those messages to only those who are eligible. Der-Wir-Ing ("DWI") talk 08:11, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Ludost Mlačani: hi there, we sent the reminder to all users that voted in the Enforcement Guidelines ratification vote (both the first and the second) and/or the U4C charter vote. Indeed, it looks like that you are not eligible to vote for this election based on the voting criteria for editors. We hope that you can be involved in other ways for the UCoC process in the future. Thanks, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 14:20, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

MassMessage
[edit]Hi there, I just thought I'd give you a heads-up that the MassMessage that was received on my and other simplewiki talk pages had redlinks in (here) as they weren't linked to meta. Thanks, --Ferien (talk) 20:29, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed, Ferien, it looks like for some languages and spaces it's not properly marked. Apologies for that, we will make sure it's properly checked before sending next time. Thanks for the ping. Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 14:22, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
ambox also for i18n? (Ratification vote)
[edit]Hi, Ramzy, Wish we will have the ambox as well for internationalization. Ventured to add translate tags, what do you think? Kindly, -- Omotecho (talk) 11:53, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- No objection to that, although we will not move the ambox content to votewiki. Thanks for thinking about it :) RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 13:37, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
Draft of Movement Charter
[edit]Hi, I see you uploaded the final version of the Movement Charter. Where can I find the draft that was published last February? Ad Huikeshoven (talk) 15:45, 10 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Ad Huikeshoven: the previous draft version was published in April, and is available at {{Movement Charter/Navbox}} under "Published in 2024". RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 15:56, 10 June 2024 (UTC)

Sunday June 23 Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network meeting (WMF BoT statement on Movement Charter ratification)
[edit]Hello everyone!
The Strategic Wikimedia Affiliates Network (SWAN) is a developing forum for all Wikimedia movement affiliates to share ideas about current developments in the Wikimedia Movement. It expands on the model of the All-Affiliates Brand Meeting to help lay some of the groundwork for further Wikimedia 2030 strategy process work.
At this meeting we will focus on the recent statement by the WMF Board of Trustees liaisons statement on the Movement Charter in which the liaisons stated that they will be recommending the Board of Trustees not to ratify the final draft of the Movement Charter. The community and affiliate votes on the ratification are supposed to start on Tuesday, 25 June. This meeting offers a venue to discuss the situation and formulate the "next steps".
This month, we are meeting on Sunday, June 23, and you are all invited to RSVP here.

texts forwarded to Wikipedia Ligure
[edit]Hi, I am one of the admin on Wiki Ligure. As you posted your latest communications in Italian on the English page of our community, we changed the text back to the original text. We do not depend on Wiki Italia, although most of our users also speak and write in Italian. Please forward the original text in English next time. Luensu1959 (talk) 12:11, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Luensu1959:, thanks for your message. As far as I understand (and I'm not a MediaWiki developer), Italian is the fallback language for Ligurian; which means if there's no Ligurian version of a MassMessage but there's one in Italian, you will receive the message in Italian. This is my understanding based on this .svg of MW fallback chains. If you wish to update this preference, I think my colleague Niklas Laxström can help you to the right direction. Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 12:25, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- So far we have received messages in Italian and English. That is why we have in place since many years two different pages for our community (one is Pòrtego da Comunitæ and the other is Community Portal). If things keep changing "up above", we can only reiterate our wish every time that there is a change. Thx, I will write to your colleague. sincerely, Luensu1959 (talk) 07:12, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
Please vote?
[edit]Hello RamzyM, I saw your post here on Meta with the request: please vote.
In 2008 I made some minor edits on the Turkish Wikipedia to remove cross wiki self promotion with an English-French text on that Turkish Wikipedia. Soon after that my user account was blocked there because of my user name. It seems that having the letters 'b o t' somewhere in a user name is a valid reason to block a user there. So names like Bottum-Up, Arbotech, Talbot, No-sabotage or Lobotomy are not allowed. Also my username 'Robotje' was automatically blacklisted. A few weeks later the single user login functionality became available and my account there was link to the several dozens of other accounts of me in Wikimedia projects.
Since I don't speak Turkish, I don't know how to fix that. Without that block I would have been able to vote but now I am not able to vote because of some eligibility rule. I want to vote, you requested me to vote but I can't because there is some 16 year old block on my account on the Turkish Wikipedia because of my user name. Please help me to get this fixed. - Robotje (talk) 16:20, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- As you can see here I am still blocked at the Turkish Wikipedia. Are you willing to take this up and if not, what can I do to get ghis fixed? - Robotje (talk) 10:29, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Robotje: hi, thanks for your message and apologies for the late reply. I am unfamiliar with local process to appeal a block at trwiki. Your best bet would be the embassy for non-Turkish speaking editors, although I see that page has been marked historical of some sort. Although even if you're able to get the block lifted at trwiki, I see that you have an indefinite block over at nlwiki, which would unfortunately render you ineligible to vote for the election anyway -- I'm sure that you would be more knowledgeable than me about how to appeal this locally. Apologies for being not be able of further help. RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 14:01, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. I don't understand why that block on nl-wiki would make me not eligible to vote. Here it says "not be site-wide blocked in more than one public project". If the tr-wiki block would be lifted, there would only one block remain. So being blocked in more than one public project would be no longer true. Or do I miss something? The Embassy of tr-wiki is blocked for me as Robotje. So maybe creating another account there without the b-o-t combination is then the only option, since the reason for blocking me there is not edits I made but some b-o-t rule for accounts. - Robotje (talk) 17:20, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

Don’t reuse old unit markers
[edit]Dear RamzyM,
As Minorax told you last year, you should not reuse Translate markers when the paragraph is fully replaced with another one. You have marked Movement Charter Ratification FAQ whereas NPhan_(WMF) wrongly reused and added unit markers. As a translation admin, you have the responsibility to check changes before marking them for translation. I admit this is not a real issue in this case, since the text was not, fortunately, translated yet. Also, you unexpectedly removed a useful `tvar` which allowed translators to get email address without painfully copying it out with the risk of adding a typo.
By the way, you may also want to avoid adding plain text email address because it is much easier for spam bot to read them and send spam to it: {{@}} template may help you. I’m using it, please remove it if you still prefer a plain text address.
Regards, -- Pols12 (talk) 20:25, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

If you think it shouldn't be sent there, feel free to remove it if there's a local consensus to do so. Thanks, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 15:35, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
U4C info banner translation
[edit]Hi @RamzyM (WMF).
Since you marked the U4C 2024 Special Election page for translation, I'm messaging you, but feel free to redirect me elsewhere.
I'm trying to translate the U4C Special Election info into French so we can share it. However I can't find the spot/code/whatever to translate the info banner "The call for candidates for the special election of the Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) begins on 10 July 2024". It's not in the code on the EN page, not in the translation page for the FR one, yet highlighted as outdated... Could you assist?
Also this page should be marked for translation.
Thanks!
SophieWMCA (talk) 14:49, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- @SophieWMCA: hi Sophie, thanks for your help with this. You can translate the banner over at {{Universal Code of Conduct/Header}}. I will mark the /Election page for translation as well, Cheers, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 16:46, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Awesome! Everything is now translated. Thank you. SophieWMCA (talk) 17:37, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Reversions
[edit]Greetings Ramzy and welcome to the community,
You undid a modification fixing the Wikimedia Foundation elections/2024/Voter eligibility guidelines page without justification. When you think there is a minor problem in a change (made in good faith), please explain it to the responsible editor instead (at least at first). If you decide to undo the change:
- always explain what you think is wrong
- do not mark your reversion as a minor edit (unless it is partial or it reverts your own change).
If you think the page should not be edited directly as your edit summary suggests, please add a discussion topic on the page's Talk page, so that administrators with the necessary authorizations can take any necessary measure. Chealer (talk) 12:20, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
