Steward requests/Global permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
Shortcut:
SRGP
This page hosts requests for global permissions. To make a request, read the relevant policy (global rollback , global sysop , global rename , …) and make a request below. Explain why membership is needed for that group, and detail prior experience or qualifications.

This is not a vote and any active Wikimedia editor may participate in the discussion.

Global rollback and global interface editor requests require no fewer than 5 days of discussion while abuse filter helper and maintainer requests require no fewer than 7 days. Global renamer and global sysop requests require no fewer than 2 weeks of discussion. For requests that are unlikely to pass under any circumstances, they may be closed by a steward without further discussion (after a reasonable amount of input).

Requests for global rollback permissions

[edit]
Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the Global rollback policy.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that: You have sufficient activity to meet the requirements to be allocated the global rollback flag

To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable.
=== Global rollback for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->
 |domain    = global <!-- don't change this line -->
 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
::''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+5 days}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than 5 days (with rare exceptions , no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential.

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). This is not a vote, and all input is welcome. Stewards will determine whether consensus exists; when doing so it is likely that the weight given to the input of those involved in cross-wiki work will be most influential. Please note: Since 2019 all global sysops are required to have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled.

Global sysop for Tanbiruzzaman

[edit]
Not ending before 22 October 2024 16:08 UTC

Hello everyone. I am Tanbiruzzaman. As a regular contributor to the Wikimedia movement, I contribute to various projects as a member of the global rollbacker and VRT permissions team for quite a long time. These roles strengthened my ability to follow procedures and manage XWiki issues efficiently. I've always noticed that small wikis that don't have an active sysop often suffer from constant vandalism and spam. I need this flag to help protect GSwikis from abuse, and to give smallwiki communities the support they need. If I am granted the flag, I will help fill the gap of a caretaker across GS wikis. I am always committed to:

  1. Respect the policies and decisions of local communities.
  2. Use the tool only when necessary.
  3. Help the community to monitor any step taken by me, and if any wrong steps are taken by me in the consideration of the community, I'll figure out the solution.

I believe I can maintain the integrity of small wikis and support the work of local administrators across small wikis. I am always ready for any kind of feedback questions or comments. –TANBIRUZZAMAN (💬) 16:08, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Global sysop for M7

[edit]
Not ending before 26 October 2024 16:35 UTC

Hi there. I'm submitting this request for the GS flag to help the current team fight spam, vandals, and LTAs, especially in small wikis. I'm a global rollbacker, a bureaucrat/sysop on it.wiki and here on meta.wiki, and I have helped as a steward for ten years between 2007 and 2016, so I've gained some confidence with the admin tools, and I promise to act appropriately if needed. GS will of course be a new experience to me, but I am willing to learn, and I will follow other fellows' advice, especially in the very first period, if you will trust me for this role. Thank you. --M/ (talk) 16:35, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for global rename permissions

[edit]
Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions, and not doing so would reflect poorly on your suitability.
Please also review the global rename policy and the global renamers policy page.
Stewards
When you give someone global rename rights, please add them to the list of global renamers and ask them to subscribe to the global renamers' mailing list.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that:

  1. You have a global account;
  2. You are logged in on this wiki, and the account is part of your global account;
  3. You have considered the addition of a user language box to your user page
To make a request
Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain of why you need the access and why you're suitable. If you previously requested that right, please add a link to the previous discussion(s).
=== Global rename for {{subst:u|{{subst:REVISIONUSER}}}} ===
{{sr-request
 |status    = <!-- don't change this line -->

 |user name = {{subst:REVISIONUSER}} <!-- don't change this line unless you're nominating another user -->
}}
:''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''

The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a period of consideration of no less than two weeks (no exceptions are allowed no matter how obvious the result may seem). While all input is welcome, there is a hard 80% support requirement for this role as per the global renamer policy.

Global rename for Elli

[edit]
Not ending before 22 October 2024 00:25 UTC

Hi everyone. I've been an admin at enwiki since June and enjoy helping with the unblock request backlog. In doing this, I've come across many cases where a rename (which the user has requested) is necessary for the user to be unblocked. I'd like to be able to action those requests. This is my main use for the permission, though I'd also be potentially interested in helping at w:WP:CHU on occasion.

I've read the relevant policies (Global renamers, Global rename policy, and for my work, w:Wikipedia:Username policy) and intend to abide by them. Though I don't expect it to happen often, if someone requesting a rename has significant contributions on a project other than enwiki, I'll do my best to make sure their requested name doesn't violate the policies of that wiki either. As for language, unfortunately I am only really fluent in English. Elli (talk) 00:25, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Global rename for 기나ㅏㄴ

[edit]
Not ending before 31 October 2024 07:02 UTC

Hello! I'm an administrator on kowiki. Currently, there is only one user managing renaming requests on kowiki. I am requesting this permission to help with renaming requests related to the Korean language as a Korean speaker. There have also been comments regarding the issue of delayed local request processing, and I would like to help address this. I am also familiar with the relevant policies. Best regards, --ginaan(T/C) 07:02, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Faldi00

[edit]

Hello

Currently, I am living in Russia. As you know, Russia has blocked several websites since 2022. These restrictions cause me to often use VPN to access blocked websites. Unfortunately, users cannot either editing or creating a page on Wikipedia with VPN. Although Wikipedia has not been blocked yet, however several important websites that can support me during the editing or creation of an article are blocked such as BBC.com, Archive.org, Rfel.org and others. Apart from that, there are several news that stated Russia wanted to block Wikipedia, although it has not materialized yet. Hence, I am requesting Global IP block exempt so that I can edit or create an article on Wikipedia without having turning off the VPN. Faldi00 (talk) 07:22, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please file a UTRS appeal? There are questions we need to ask that are better done not visible to everyone. -- Amanda (she/her) 16:06, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Global IP block exempt for Player8635

I was blocked when logging into Wikimedia Commons

I hope I can log in to upload some resources (such as photos of my school) for use in the wiki, and I also hope to log in to participate in editing activities, but I only have access to the Chinese wiki now, and I hope to get a global IP exemption --Player8635 (talk) 14:32, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Player8635, have you tried local (commons) IP block exempt? As far as I can understand you, you only want to edit the chinese wikipedia and commons. More information: Commons:IP block exemption. TenWhile6 15:19, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did apply for a local IP exemption, but I was blocked by Wikimedia Commons when I was editing a realm, and I can't edit tasks like: "Add an image to an article without an illustration

Global abusefilter helper for Wüstenspringmaus

[edit]
Not ending before 21 October 2024 9:00 UCT

Hi, I'm Wüstenspringmaus. As I often revert global LTAs/spambots, and global LTAs are often not only active on Wikidata and dewiki (e.g. ACV or Wikinger), it would be benificial for me to have global AFH rights. It would also be useful to be able to see the hitlist and code of private filters in wikis where I am not an admin, especially the ones I wrote the code for, so that I can better deal and help with false positives. If you have any questions please let me know. Thanks, --Wüstenspringmaus talk 09:00, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That will be done with the patch on phab:T377169. — JJMC89(T·C) 06:16, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
{{on hold}} @Ajraddatz these user all have fixed expirations in this role correct (such that group management can be linked to it). Where are the expiration dates of these documented? — xaosflux Talk 13:36, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Internally - we should be publishing a list shortly, short answer is they will all expire in June of 2025 or 2026 depending on the member. I would prefer that permissions management happens similar to stewards or ombuds, where the rights are adjusted as needed after terms expire / new terms begin, rather than setting temporary global rights to the end date of each term. – Ajraddatz (talk) 15:26, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I think some will be requesting LA here - those are expiring by default, but also easy to renew. (Hold lifted) — xaosflux Talk 16:27, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
