Abstract Wikipedia/Wikifunctions logo concept

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

We are looking for a great logo for the new Wikifunctions wiki. Are you an artist or do you have ideas or feedback for a design? Please join us!

The logo concept will be decided by the community through discussion and a vote, and the result will be further refined by the Wikifunctions team.

You can read the overview of this project to learn about the goals of the Wikifunctions wiki, what a “function” is, and how it all relates to the larger Abstract Wikipedia project.

Please join us on the talk page to discuss the overall goals of the future logo, to propose logo design ideas, and to give feedback on other designs. Comments are welcome in any language.

Logo submission rules and selection process

[edit]

The Legal rules are at Logo submission rules. Please note that entering a submission constitutes your acceptance of these rules. Please help translate that section into your language.

After the proposal deadline, we might need to reduce the number of proposals if there are too many or for other reasons. We will discuss this when the time comes. Then we will start a vote with the whole community in order to establish the favoured logo concept on this shortlist. After vetting by legal, the logo concept with the most votes will then be further refined by staff. This follows the precedent of the Wikidata logo selection.

Design criteria and recommendations

[edit]

Here are some tips for creating a good logo:

  • It must work well at different sizes: 16×16px (favicon for browser tabs), 50×50px (new Vector theme), 140×140px (old Vector theme), and larger (print)
  • It must work well in color and in black & white
  • It must use a reduced color palette
  • It must have suitable contrast for text color, and for light and dark background colors
  • It should be color-blind friendly
  • It should have some identification factor with the wiki's goals
  • It should work well alongside the existing family of project logos

More details on each of these tips is at Logo § Designing new logos.

You can draft a logo design in any image format which can be rendered on this wiki. It will be refined later.
