2017 European GLAMwiki Coordinators meeting

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
2nd European GLAMwiki Coordinators Meeting, Paris February 2017

UNESCO Headquarters, 16-17th
Wikimédia France office, 18th

The Challenge: Many European Wikimedia affiliates are actively involved in GLAM activities, but rarely do we work together. Following from the 2015 edition, this two-day meeting is to share skills and best practices, coordinate projects, and consolidate connections between parts of our movement.

UNESCO currently produces an Open Access Professional Development Course (open licensing) for researchers and librarians. These resources are currently being redeveloped as interactive online courses.. We would like to explore providing a version for Galleries, Museums and Archives professionals and provide information on Wikimedia within the modules.

A - UNESCO World Network

B - Transferring skills to Wikimedia communities

Room V:  To help further wide adoption and understanding of open licenses it is proposed UNESCO create a World Network of organisations and practitioners involved in open licensing. This would including badging for different kinds of members e.g organisations who produce open license content and expert organisations who research and facilitate open licensing. (John Cummings)

Room III: How do experienced GLAM organizers transfer skill and capacity in developing GLAM partnerships to new or potential GLAM-Wiki program leaders? What are the barriers? What are the must-know tools/skills? (Alex & Àlex)

Goal: Identify potential skills, capacities, and focuses we could be transferring to other communities (including through venues like Learning Days, Wikimedia conference, Wikimania, and GLAM conference?) and through documentation

Attendees

Hosts

Affiliate Representatives

Invited Guests

Invited attendees are each the representative of a European Wikimedia affiliate organisation who have responsibility for coordinating GLAM activities.
Attendees will primarily be Chapter-staff, but also can include designated volunteers or board members - also of Thematic Orgs or User Groups. Generally this will be 1 per affiliate, but in some affiliates the role might be shared.
GLAMwiki Coordinators from non-European Wikimedia affiliates are also welcome to attend and participate if they wish.
As a "functionaries meeting", the cost of travel and accommodation in Paris is at the affiliates' expense. A grant request to the WMF to fund several scholarships from non-Annual Plan affiliates was approved and 7 scholarships offered.
