Wikinews topic categories

edit

Hi. This is a point that often trips folks up at first. A topic category on Wikinews corresponds to a Wikipedia article, not to a Wikipedia category. So, for example, n:Category:Cleveland, Ohio would correspond to w:Cleveland. There are a few other cases floating around on Wikidata, I think, where a non-Wikipedian sister has non-mainspace pages that correspond to Wikipedia articles. --Pi zero (talk) 15:48, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Huh. That's interesting. Do we have this documented anywhere? It would be helpful to have some instructions if it's the sort of thing that comes up fairly frequently. - Eureka Lott 17:23, 9 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
For Wikinews, the basic link (I always have to hunt for it when needed) is Wikidata:Wikinews/Development#Interproject links. I'm not familiar with any one place that summarizes these sorts of things for all sister projects. (There's at least one other exceptional case, Wikidata:Wikisource/Development#Author.) --Pi zero (talk) 14:37, 10 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Good to know. Thanks! - Eureka Lott 15:39, 10 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Merge of Q125923631 to Q5132195

edit

Can you either revert yourself or restore the information in a new entry since they aren't the same entity? I'm not even sure there is a connection between them to begin with, but there's clearly a difference between the newspaper and company regardless. Thanks. I undid the part of the merge that you didn't. My initial research turned up items like this book, which identified the newspaper company as the "Cleveland News Co." and led me to think that they were the same company. Later I looked through some city directories, and found that the two companies were listed separately. - Eureka Lott 22:27, 19 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 22:57, 20 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
