Hi! My name is Jan Pešula. I was born and have spent many years in the Czech Republic, but since 1998 I have been working on long assignments in various European countries. On Wikimedia, I mainly edit Czech-language projects.
The focus of my contributions since 2009 is adding biographical data of 19th century personalities, who had a relation with the present-day Czech Republic. This has included:
- Searching for public domain portraits in digitized magazines (also Austrian ones)
- Writing biographies of forgotten celebrities active at the turn of the 19th/20th centruries, using digitized historical books and magazines as a source
- Since June 2020, I have been systematically searching for celebrities in digitized Czech death registers and adding missing dates + references to Wikidata.
- Before corona, I also used to travel around Europe and then uploaded pictures from lesser known locations and secondary railways to Wikimedia Commons. But this is of course suspended for now.
