I'm bored and I've run out of ideas for games to find stuff for that haven't been thoroughly checked already. NES and SNES games preferred.

Faria (), Kirby's Dream Course (JP version might have a menu..?), Famicom Tantei Club 2 (there's some... odd text in there), Clock Tower (SNES, has some unused items)...

Shame you don't do GB/GBC or GBA, I'd have a bigger list.

Well the reason why I specified NES / SNES is that emulators exist for those systems with easy to use memory viewers and debugging tools. Actually, VBA has a memory viewer too so I could probably do some GB games.

I believe the no$gmb / no$gba emulators have very good debuggers, but you'll have to ask around to see if you can get one without paying out the ass for it.

BGB is a good GB(C) emulator with a debugger.

no$gmb works, but you have to pay for GBC.

I learned somewhere that Super Mario Brothers 2 was almost a complete duplicate of Doki Doki Panic.

Is that something to put in the forum?

That has nothing to do with unused material.
Besides, both the SMB2 and Doki Doki Panic ROMs have been combed over pretty thoroughly.
Most of the leftovers in those have already been snatched up.

maybe you could try Final Fantasy 1 (NES) and Mickey Mania (SNES version has a few unused songs which were in the Mega Drive version) I may come up with more soon

It's actually the other way around, ignoring the $2000 version that was discontinued. They're inexpensive, but crappy.

SML2 and Metroid 2 use the same engine IIRC, so both might be interesting to look at. It might also be neat to poke through the Super Game Boy ROM.

Well, that would explain why I found the Metroid 2 credits in the SML2 ROM.

Final Fight 2.

Final Fight 1 and 3 have been looked into. Why not get the last remaining one?

I know there's unused women's scream sprites in the U.S. version, and Won Won's cleaver is left out of the American version.

Some games I know:

Game and Watch Galleries 2 and 3 (GB/C) have really, really awesome debug menus in them, but I don't know how to enable them any more. Cendamos found them at some point but (surprise, surprise) the codes went missing.

Doubutsu no Mori (N64) has the Zelda 64 debug menu in it, apparently.
xdaniel made a code for it once, apparently, but he lost it, and cen didn't want to help...

Why didn't it occur to me to check the PJ64 cheat DBs in some old backups of mine?

"Forest Map Select" - Advance through title screen, etc. until you get to Totakeke's first two-choice question. Now, hold R and select the second option, and when you're supposed to return to the title screen you arrive at the map select.
