Abstract
Sri Lanka scored 3.42 out of 10 in the GCPI, placing it in the “Emerging” band. It does provide new mothers with generous breastfeeding breaks, and free prenatal and postnatal healthcare. However, Sri Lankan laws remain outdated as they have limited recognition of non-female family caregivers, and all maternity leave costs must be borne by the employer rather than being state-subsidized. Although Sri Lanka scored well for its protections for forced and underage domestic workers, it excludes domestic workers from almost all labor law coverage and protections on working conditions, remuneration, and fair employment.
