Comportamiento sectorial de la industria manufacturera en Colombia 1980-2005. Un análisis a partir de datos de panel

Abstract
Este artículo trata, desde una perspectiva cuantitativa y utilizando Datos de Panel, para el período 1980-2005, tanto del comportamiento de 24 subsectores de la industria manufacturera, como de las variables independientes: el coeficiente de apertura exportadora, el coeficiente de penetración de importaciones, la tasa de cambio, las exportaciones y las importaciones, definidas éstas como determinantes de la producción industrial. Para esto, el artículo se compone de tres apartados. Primero, se realiza un acercamiento al tema de la industria manufacturera en Colombia. En la segunda parte se trabaja no sólo el seguimiento cuantitativo de los sectores manufactureros, sino que también se realizan los ejercicios econométricos, utilizando el Panel Data; por último, se presentan las conclusiones, en las que se manifiesta que la industria manufacturera en Colombia se caracteriza por poseer una estructura similar a la de hace 30 anos; que el modelo de crecimiento, basado en los mercados abiertos, no ha contribuido a generar cambios estructurales, por cuanto se mantiene la dependencia sobre los bienes intermedios y de capital, pero se le concede, eso sí, una menor importancia a la industria, en la estructura económica del país.
