Innovations- und Kooperationsaktivitäten in der deutschen Biotechnologie: Ergebnisse einer empirischen Studie

Abstract
Die Biotechnologie-Branche zeichnet sich durch einen starken Wandel aus. Dies ist ein sehr typisches Merkmal für kooperationsintensive Branchen. Es liegt also nahe, nach den Kooperationsaktivitäten von Biotechnologie-Unternehmen zu fragen. Dies geschieht in diesem Arbeitspapier von Martin Effelsberg, das erste Ergebnisse einer groß angelegten empirischen Untersuchung präsentiert. Analysiert werden sowohl die Innovationsaktivitäten als auch die Kooperationsstrategien. Im Mittelpunkt des Erkenntnisinteresses stehen die Kooperationen im Innovationsprozess. Dabei stellt sich heraus, dass die Unternehmen den Kooperationsbedarf vor allem durch den Wettbewerbsdruck erleben, regelmäßig Innovationen hervorbringen zu müssen. Den Hintergrund bildet ein schneller Technologiewandel. Die Innovationen werden für die Unternehmen zunehmend kostenintensiver. Über 90 % der befragten Unternehmen kooperieren zumindest gelegentlich, um Innovationen hervorzubringen. Es stellen sich zahlreiche interessante und bisher nicht vorhandene Erkenntnisse heraus. Die Unternehmen beurteilen als bedeutendstes Kooperationsziel den Zugang zu Know-how, gefolgt von einer Verkürzung der Entwicklungszeit und der Steigerung der unternehmerischen Flexibilität. Es stellt sich heraus, dass Kunden, Hochschulen und staatliche Forschungsinstitute die Partner sind, mit denen am meisten kooperiert wird. Dabei unterscheiden sich die dominanten Kooperationspartner in Abhängigkeit vom Kooperationsbereich. Besonders informativ sind die empirischen Ergebnisse über die Biotechnologie-Cluster. Dieses Arbeitspapier entstammt dem IfG-Forschungscluster II: Unternehmenskooperationen.
