Merger of E.ON and Ruhrgas The economic aspects

Author

Listed:
  • Hans-Werner Sinn
Abstract
This expertise was commissioned by E.ON to provide a scientific foundation for the application of E.ON AG to receive permission for the acquisition of control over Ruhrgas AG, according to § 42 GWB, by taking over Gelsenberg and Bergemann, who control the majority of Ruhrgas stock. The Federal Minister of Economics and Technology can grant this permission on the grounds of the overriding public interest and because of the macroeconomic advantages of the alliance. The expertise examines the macroeconomic effects of the intended alliance on the basis of economic and empirical findings. It contains mainly economic but no legal valuations.
