El entorno urbano y las aspiraciones de los padres sobre la educación de sus hijos en México

Abstract
This paper models the aspirations of parents about the school attainment of their children using as determinants, characteristics of the social and economic environment, in addition to household's characteristics. This research uses the Mexican Social Mobility Survey 2011 (EMOVI-2011) fulfilled by the Espinosa Rugarcía Foundation (ESRU), which includes, in addition to characteristics of each household member, information on educational aspiration of parents with respect to their children's school attainment. Additionally, information from the Mexican Population Census of 2010, environment characteristics by neighborhood (AGEB), such as average years of education, access to health services, among others, are included. It is found evidence to argue that the surrounding environment does have an effect on the educational aspiration of parents about the school attainment of their children. In addition, it is found that the determinants of these aspirations change with the age of children.
